I never really dug the Slate Drums...could never get them to sound convincing. CLA was closer. Maybe this will throw it over the edge.

so the cymbals are triggered but the drums are actually miked and triggering samples through slate trigger ? or what are the white faces on top of the drum heads ?
this seems awfully precise triggering of drums, some of those roll, ghost notes on snare etc.. nice !!

They are at NAMM showing their tilted flat screen monitor or "console". The way I used to drop stuff on the console I wouldn't expect that to survive for long. Don't expect to hear shit there though. The NAMM noise is worse than ever. It's so loud even the BS from the hockers is hard to hear.

I never really dug the Slate Drums...could never get them to sound convincing. CLA was closer. Maybe this will throw it over the edge. I have SSD and the three additional collections on top of it and it all sounds 'samey' to me. Slate definitely has a sound. I know he likes to think this is all groundbreaking and different but Slate definitely has a sound, like every manufacturer does, and no matter who does the collection for him it still sounds like Slate drums. I'll keep my ears open to hear this though. I generally only use Slate for Kick and Snare. Those tend to be my favorite. I've yet to hear any toms from Slate that didn't sound like wet paper. His toms really don't work for me, no matter the collection. Sometimes I wonder if it's just the endless amounts of overprocessing on his samples no matter the kit. Believe it or not, I love the toms from the Abbey Road collections in Kontakt so I tend to use those kits for the tom fills. The 80s kits have some especially nice, big, and bright sounding toms. Hats I can take or leave with either. I haven't really found a hat sound I like 100% yet. There's tons of 'sloppy' kinds of hats that are great for rock music but I haven't really found the right kind of crisp hat that I like. Nothing I've heard yet is horrible, it just doesn't make me go wow. But again I haven't heard nearly all the drum collections out there so eventually I'll find my hat! I am excited to check out that new drum collection from Spitfire, though. That looks like it has some good sounds in the demo and looks fast to work with. I like that.

Man - I pulled up Abbey Roads Drums the other night and was really, really impressed again. I always forget about them! Yeah. I think they tend to get glossed over a bit because they've been around a while and they're all included with Komplete Ultimate and to be honest, I use more third party libraries than I do the included Komplete ones but the Abbey Road drums do have a great sound to them. When I play the Abbey Road toms, I instantly think, "Yeah, that's what a tom sounds like." When I play a Slate tom I feel more like, "Ok...time to EQ...Let's put a gate on that...etc."

abbey road drums of course also have the room ambiance included in them, for some reason we have kind of learned to like that sound, can't think why ?

I'll be picking this up mainly for that.

what do you struggle with with the plug in ? the biggest thing is it doesnt save settings when i close a session. spent like 8 hours going through all the sounds (platinum too) finally got a kit set up. open the session the next day and its blank. PT11 Windows 7. i think it takes more cpu than the kontakt version did. cant sample sounds. would like to be able to scroll through samples back to back and not have to drag it into the drum to listen to one hit. dont love any of the cymbals. blackbird included. but on the other hand ive never heard a cymbal i did like. anywhere. dont really know my way around it yet so my opinion could change. im pretty sure 5 will be out any day now since all the plugs have been updated and the BB sale ended. i read somwhere that 5 was tested and ready to go mid last year but he swore he would put all his resources into getting those VTM/VCC/FGX updates out that he promised for ever ago. so it would've looked bad. i tried holding out for 5 but i had to jump on the BB sale before it ended. im hoping it will be a free software update.

With Cubase, you just click and store it so you can bring up the same sound on another project. I am with you on the cymbals. Nothing sounds like my UFIP's in a library anywhere and the sole reason I never program drums anymore. For me, capturing a real drummer playing a real kit will never change. I look at it like an expense that has to happen to make the recording happen.

interesting i'll check here but pretty certain my setting changes save and that you can hear samples without loading them ? yes real drummers are preferred but sample libraries are a tool i also like to think each time I hire a real musician I am investing in our musical society and in their individual dream. businesses that make cool products are all well and good, but we kinda need real musicians doin good in the food chain too ! SSD testing So yes I can audition samples just by being in the instrument mode and clicking audition, top right hand side, an arrow appears to the left of sample name and if you click you should hear the sample ? changing settings and saving works fine too, see example, I changed the kick drum, saved and opened, yesterday I saved levels and volumes of samples, they recalled fine ? check you are in Instrument mode, button , top left hand side.
