I have been interested in this comp (JDK V12) for a while. Not sure why, maybe its the military green!
Anyone have an opinion on it? I have not seen much talk about it.

Ok, how about the JDK R22, same comp just in 19" form?
These are suppose to be based off the ATI Paragon console compressors.

They are very automatic, but not in a smooth LA2A kind of way. For tracking certain things I think you could get on decently with one, for mix buss applications I'm afraid it likely won't suit.

What are you trying to compress?
That is the real question.

Warhead, Well everything! LOL! No, its just one of those comps that caught my eye when it first came out. I had read some interviews from guys that were talking about the paragon consoles, so it got me curious. I have 2 of the original Arsenal V14 and like what they do. I currently have 2 Purple actions, 3 Pico 501's, Don's U76, and 2 DBX 903's for outboard comps. I have been looking at these, the GR PMW's, and the IGS LA2a 500 Clone.

An interesting thought might be to consider the Serpent Audio SB4001 which has a variable, manual release but also kills the SSL mix buss thing. In other words you could use it for tracking as versatile (if not more) as anything, but then use it as a mix buss compressor in 500 with stellar results.

WarheadHow does the IGS S-type compare to the SB4001. I was actually looking at building the rack version of the SB4001, so interesting that you brought it up.

I have used virtually all of the IGS Audio 500 series compressors and the S-Type was the only one I was a little "eh" about.
It is good, don't get me wrong. However, where the other models they have pretty much nail what they are trying to emulate in 500 form, the S-Type leaves a little to be desired. It is a bit more finicky than most SSL clones, and does have limited features compared to most also. On a budget I say go for it! It did outperform at least one of the expensive 500 SSL clones.
For a versatile comp that does the SSL thing and then so much more, and has the best depth of tone etc, grab the Serpent Audio SB4001.
