Saw the image of the new Heritage mixer and it got me thinking. I know Jeff's console has gone on the back burner. Maybe jsteiger has a better idea then anyone on the feasibility of this idea. But take the Purple Audio rack mixer concept and add in regular 19" modules to provide bussing and panning. So you have standard 11 space racks for your pre/eq/compression. Interconnected with standard cabling. Also have a 1U insert unit. Then we have 500 series fader units that feed a regular 19" module for panning and bussing. The panning/buss unit would feed a 11 space rack for 8 busses and stereo output. I am probably over simplifying things a bit.

I'm working on a modular console based around Jeff's console framework using the 508 metal buckets and backplanes. I have a running build/photo log over at groupdiy: groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=58254.0Maybe it will provide you some ideas. While many of the console related modules seem to be on the backburner (although I would love to get a 625cr kit, hint, hint), there's still a lot you can do with the general framework. I'm going to be using some Stereotype Mark V pcbs from Hakanai (not sure if he's still selling these) for fader/pan/master bus feeding in to a 2ACA and master fader. The stereotype boards are a simple summing mixer with layout for a 2520 line receiver, fader, and pan on each channel feeding a stereo bus. Sometime down the road I would like to add auxes and a few more busses, but that will come after the basic groundwork is finished and the buckets are filled.
