OK,
so i got this cool notification about the new Sonar coming up, and yeah, i was like: "Let's get into the web shop and see what the upgrade pricing is...."
Well, not so. There was this new webshop thingie, and first, they want a new "one-click" account. Oh, well, sure, my personal data connected to forum account connected to whatever....
Data connectors and collectors, i love you. Not really....
So i made a new account. It "should" connect my old data as long as i use the same email that i used with my old webshop...
Not so. Registered Products are partly missing. Funnily, my older products, done with another email address still ARE there. My later additions connected to Sonar X3 Pro - missing. My latest purchase, a sound lib - IS there? Huh? Odd.
Well, let's see, how good the "Feedback"-Function works. Or if i have to contact the support group directly...
So, if you had any products registered at Cakewalk and didn't visit your webshop account lately, i.e. since they changed it sometime last year, i strongly advise to do so and check, if any products got lost at their latest transition of systems....
Hummmm, with their new Sonar, they also enter the realm of "memberships" but yet, at least it seems like a totally fair model.
I generally don't like these kind of unnecessary web system transitions. I think it may be due to the transition of Cakewalk from Roland to Gibson/Tascam, maybe their web marketing division got advised to change styles while move to Gibsons or Tascams servers, become more "modern" or whatever, but really - i don't like this. I didn't like it when Cakewalk went over to Roland. (Remeber a few probs after this as well.) Never change a running system. I am oldschool about that.
Also, i don't like this "control center" type of software. Another "me too" thing new at Cakewalk. Annoying, at least for me. They tell you it is so convenient for downloading your stuff. Sure. But it is also about getting data from the customer, most of the time. (It is not better, because everybody does it...)
Right now, it's optional, and this is good. On the other hand, most of the time things that are optional in the beginning are just tested for the customer acceptance and become mandatory later - which i hope will NOT be the case here. (You listen, Cakewalk?)
That said - shit happens (everywhere), and i DO like Sonar Pro and it's concept of bundling very cool effect and instrument plugins very much, and it is my creation type DAW of choice.
And the new version will come with XLN AD2 Producer pack and this time with Overloud stuff like a reMatrix verb and this time even a full TH2.
But geeze...i had to rant about this. Maybe i am just too old for this kind of shit... ;-)
Too old for rock'n'roll, too young to die....
*/end of rant
Best regards,
Martin
