Cool. Compared to the bikes today, those 400's are Tanks Tony. But they were groundbreaking at the time. Yamaha's are still the most reliable bike out there, and I wouldn't be surprised if that 400 was still kicking, maybe with only one top end rebuild. Always a soft spot in my heart for the blue bikes.
I don't race, only ride for fun and have 2 Yamaha WR's, a Husky 450, Kawi 300 and a girls bike for my wife - Honda 200. LOL I wanna get a little 50 for the singletrack I built on my property. :-) That's probably where I'll end up getting hurt. LOL
You bring Shannon and Ward and I'll take you guys for a ride...... :-) We got A** kicking trails in town, trails out of town up my direction, trails way beyond town, trails in the Mtns, trails 45 min away in the Dez, trails in the red rock canyons and trails up high 8000+ north of here.... Plenty to keep me busy with writing and producing....
Talk about a thread derail. LOL

I'll be there Thursday. I usually keep a low profile so don't expect to see me in the lounges shmoozing. I mostly go because my wife likes it. I've done NAMM since 1976 so it's sort of old for me. Back then it was held in the ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. In 1977, too many stoned out hippies snorting coke running down the hallways naked and screaming did it in for NAMM at Disneyland, not too family friendly if you know what I mean.
I bring my survival pack every year: 1. Cloroseptic spray for your sore throat, you will need it screaming above the din all day. 2. Ear plugs, needed or you will have that after concert ringing in your ears, OSHA would shut NAMM down if they knew how loud it is. 3. Very soft shoes or wear inserts, your feet will thank you. 4. Eye drops, the air is filthy and full of fog machine crap. 5. Food and drink, or bring your "gold card". Prices are sky-high inside. 6. a good hat, the lighting is harsh and a bill will cut out the overhead glare, it's amazing how much more you can see. 7. Get a close by, in the garage parking spot, then you can get to your car if you need anything without walking 2 miles. 8. Quality narcotics, they tend to be in short supply and the quality brought in by out-of-staters is poor, exceptions are Colorado, Washington and Oregon. 9. a flask if #8 doesn't work for you, a mixed drink is $9 at the bar. 10. patience, expect waits and long lines. Patience is a virtue easily fatigued through exersize.

I owned one of the first 10 1998 YZ400F 4 stroke bikes(first of it's kind), i've raced (mid level skill as compared to the guys who used to fly by me lol) Carlsbad raceway, Glen Helen, Elsinore, Perris, Starwest blah blah, last time i rode was at a super cool mx track in Walden NY, that was in 2000, Being old and too crazy, i realized that pain hurts too much to do it anymore, it was ridiculously fun while it lasted, closest thing to flying i've ever experienced 8) Sinsay was a full on pro motocrosser! That is an incredibly hard level to crack! you have to be beyond fast to reach the PRO class, it's quite a remarkable accomplishment on his part. I felt it was a PRO license to get my ASS kicked..lol Naw wasn't that bad well at the beginning maybe.. LOL I went from being No# 1 in the Nation to holy shit wait the f*** up……… . I rode for HONDA, KAWASAKI (title), Suzuki Never liked Yamaha much even though the rake made me corner like a squid. Yes on drbill ( how in the hell you make it point to someone ) lets have a M.A.G. Motocross, Audio Gear Pro 50cc backyard MX would rock…. 1--3 Get Audio gear. Steel city, High Point, Troy Ohio , Red bud farthest away at 3-4 hr Highpoint 40 min back roads. See all soon bbbbbbbbrrrraaaaappp!

Yeah, the Yamaha's like to go in a STRAIGHT line, eh Shannon. LOL Killer for the desert out this way. But once you get used to the front end feeling like you're going to lose it in the corners, you get used to it. Completely different than a KTM though.... My italian era (09) Husky is the same way. Great desert bike, and a handful in the tight rocky technical woods we have here. I will keep it for the more open stuff, but the Kawi, Yamaha are probably gone, so I can get a newer 310 husky. (Newer mode - 12/13). Feels like a mini bike compared to the 450, but has 90% o the power. F U N bike.
I've been making a little mini single track in my back yard. Good for a 50 or maybe 80. Tight, tight and tight thru bushes, but I have ONE straightaway and lots of turns. Maybe a jump if I can stomach the liability issues.... heh heh Cause I KNOW my friends are gonna push it to the limit. :-)
When I get the new studio built, I will build it AROUND / INSIDE the trail. :-) And then we can have proper shootouts between all the important things. Gear, Guns and Bikes - in one spot. Not necessarily in that order...... :-)

I was always a Yammy guy... 2-strokes too! I hated the 4-strokes, but he he ... different strokes for different folks, I guess. Sounds like you guys went full-bore. I only went as far as 250 class. Those 400s 465s and 500s were just way too much for me, back in the day. 250cc 2stroke Yammy just felt perfect. 125s were too peaky, and 465-500 class was just too much grunt and power for the teenage version of me.
ANYHOW... BACK TO NAMM!!!
Where are we all meeting up on Thursday at 5PM?

Either way it'd be great if a bunch of us could get together for a drink on friday, i'm gonna wear my RGO T shirt for the group pic 8) I'll start another thread to coordinate this whole thing, and maybe Johnkenn can sticky it until then please

I guess the most important thing we can do is set a time and place on friday where we can all meet up, and start a sticky thread so we can let each other know we'll be there. donr did you have a place in mind that would be cool to meet on friday? If not, i'll look for something in close proximity to the happenings

Tony, the Peavey thing is for its dealers and guests, but about half the room will be open to NAMM attendees. If you come Thursday, I can ensure you and any other RGO'er can get into the event. Otherwise, I want to meet all you knuckleheads I've been typing and reading at this last year+ that are going to NAMM personally before Sunday.
Just let me know.

Very cool, then i will start another rsvp thread for a meet and ask Johnkenn to sticky it. If you'd be so kind as to chime in on that and give us a show start time, or a meeting time? we'll be there. We can also set up a meeting time for Friday on the same thread, so we can all have a drink and hang out with you a bit, sounds like a blast! 8)

Ehhh, no. I guess it's more fun to visit the guys in the U.S.. Let's face it, they won't come over if we would meet only at Musikmesse or so. ;-) Too busy guys and intercontinental flights aren't that cheap really.... ;-)

ANYHOW... BACK TO NAMM!!!
Where are we all meeting up on Thursday at 5PM?
Screw NAMM, lets talk about off-road Jeeps and guns! I got a Sahara unlimited, lifted, Dick Cepek 35" mud terrains, Banks air intake system, Pro-comp 6 way adjustable shocks, G2 gears, Optima battery, Aluminum 16x8 Pro Comp wheels. Goes anywhere, even gone on bike trails with it at June Lake. The bikes always seem suprized to see a Jeep. The hood makes a great rest to shoot AR-15's off of. Got a few of them and love to shoot long range targets past 500 yards.

One word jim -
MOAB.
Jeeps or bikes. And the best place in the continental USA to off-road. IMO
PS - please do not take your jeep on bike trails. I'm sure it's capable, but it wrecks single track.

I'm 6'4", so motocross wasn't quite the right fit, but when I did ride, this was the way I liked it. I had to let it go for now. Three years back, a cabby drove the wrong way up a street right into me, totaled my bike, and banged me up really good. My customized Street Bob, and a loaner Fat Boy, when I was privileged to join the Brothers in Arms for a ride to honor vets. Attachments:

NAMM was ehh... Last year's crap, ver. 2.0
Weather is great outside, better to go jeeping, dirt bike riding or shooting. NAMM is full of old, fat people, I meant the show sluts. They look like they were hired from Walmart. Truly an unattactive crowd that looked like they were off to a NASCAR race. I guess music is now show biz for ugly people.
I saw a couple of interesting things, like some oil can guitars, bass strings that light up and a Go Pro booth. Seems non-audio stuff is working it's way into the show more now. Fender had a couple of really nice new Telecasters, but no rosewood models, they quoted me $6000 to build another one, I'll pass.
No new software from Bricasti until next year. Most audio stuff was re-rolled wheels, been there, done that. I didn't see any cutting edge designs, mostly retro trips down memory lane. Not as many mics or pedals as a couple of years ago. Every Asian there was taking close up pics of everything. You will see those products in the Shanghai booths next year.
Couldn't hear shit inside, I wore earplugs to avoid the after concert ringing. Prices were sky high. A big seller in the NAMM store is a nice $25 flask, those were selling well due to sky-high cocktail costs.
No rock stars or has-beens, those usually show on Saturday. Seems I didn't know most of the "guest artists" listed, been out of the loop or maybe they arn't really stars? One guy joked they are the "starving, guest artists". Everyone there was hustling hard, even the guest starving artists hocking their "downloads". Seems no one wants to invest in producing a CD hardware copy, it's all vapor now.
It's not your father's NAMM show anymore. Much of the excitment and glamour is long gone, along with the music biz I suppose. I felt a bit sad over it all. The 1976 NAMM show was legendary.

You forgot.... there was massive sale on black hair dye at Walmart earlier this week, and many many aging rockstar wannabes had that "spray paint" look going on with their 'do's.
Legit stars? Stevie Wonder's impromptu jam was pretty cool. DonR was there, so was Doug Pinnock, Billy Sheehan - all wonderful warm people. Had a great chat with Bryce from Warm Audio. He really thinks highly of our group - wankers and all!! Many other great musicians... and some rude egocentric gear pimpers too.

I had a very very funny meet-up with Chris Lord Alge and 'punked' him. It was hilarious to everyone who caught on at the SSL booth. But I don't think I should post it here.
