I have an opportunity to buy the desk below for $240.00. I've used this custom built desk and it is solidly built. I love having the tilted racks on both sides for compressors, Reverb units and other hardware which I can tweak easily due to the close proximity. My only problem is that due to the racks the speakers will have to be turned horizontally. I keep reading about speakers needing to be vertical. So, I'm wondering if you guys think vertical speakers are that big a deal. Thanks in advance to anybody who shares their opinion.

Does it come furnished? Nice gear in there for $240! I keed! I keed!
Check the specs on your speakers. Some are designed to go both ways. If you've worked on that desk before, how did the tiled speakers sound to you? We're they a problem?

Thanks for your reply jcoutu1. The Adams' sound fine to me horizontally, but I've never heard them vertically. The NS10's can go both ways, but the Adam's are designed to be vertical. I have only mixed a few songs so far on these two speakers, but have not had any major complaints.

Thanks for your reply Randy. I have a couple of tilted Primacoustic pads, but not at an angle steep enough so that if I had them on top of the desk racks that the tweeters would be at ear level if I put the Adam's vertically. Also, I've read that angled speakers are a bad idea because it changes the axis as you move your head forward and back. And that in turn changes the frequency response you hear at mid and high frequencies. I don't know if that's audiophile voodoo or what. There are so many opinions about the perfect speaker placement, if that's even possible, that its hard to get it all sorted out. Still, there's always that little voice saying "you need to get the perfect placement possible".

The bitch about it is, besides wondering about the horizontal vs vertical debate, is that he's also offering a great deal on the Tascam 2400 that he had built into the desk, but Tascam stopped supporting it and we haven't been able to get it working on Pro Tolls 11 or Cubase 6. If I could get that working it would be an incredible situation.

You should be able to walk around your room and it be pretty consistent, so I don't buy into the whole hifi thing regarding tilting that you mentioned. You get used to whatever your mix position is regardless imo.

i have adam a7x and just got sone isoacoustic stands: very pleased with how bottom end tightened etc
I have been experimenting with positioning V, H and upside down: i prefer upside down and i'm not from OZ: go figure !
These stands can be angled as well .

...and upside down: i prefer upside down and i'm not from OZ: go figure ! That's a good point. If the speakers are high, upside down might get the tweeter where you need it. Anyone know of issues with upside down speakers?

The problem I have had when I put speakers upside down with the tweeter at ear height is that I can't feel the bass like when they are horizontal or standing up straight.

I actually found the opposite with the adams: the bass is clearer ( due to isoacoustics) and more experienced
I flipped everything around 3 times over a couple of days but listend to the same track same volume.

My kingdom for a sterling Modular Uno. What a great looking little desk for a rig like mine.

Those speakers look a tad close to the listening area for my taste. Anything closer than 6' apart is borderline in my experience. YMMV of coarse.

I could put them 6' apart on stands cowboy, but would I then have a problem with reflections from the racks on the desk? I thought about that too. If you set hem them up hi enough to clear the racks and angle them down it might work. I actually did something like that with stands before I got my Argosy desk. Reflections off a console or desk seem to actually help (at least that seems to be the consensus among recordists and I happen to agree). But, any obstacle in front of a speaker is never good so those racks would defiantly play into the decision.
