Even on sale the CL-1B is pricey at $165 on sale. I am glad I have a hw version and will continue to use that exclusively until the sw gets reasonable to buy.

I paid less than $2,000 for the hardware CL-1B. Yes, you are buying parts that amount to something, not software that has already been out for a while and has made them some serious dough many times over.

Plus, it sounds better because it isn't an emulation, its the real thing. I don't mean to be snarky, but software has very low overhead to make. It shouldn't be expensive. After issues with plugin companies closing their doors, I feel much safer with the hw that I can repair when it breaks.

R I get that, but $165 is probably less than the cost of a decent set of tubes for the hardware. We can't all afford hardware for everything. I've got a few choice hardware pieces for my "golden" channels and the rest get software. $165 for unlimited instances of a similar vibe/feel to a CL1B doesn't seem ludacris to me. Everyone has to make a living and I doubt the Softube guys are living in a castle. Anyone else used it? Good/bad? Any thoughts?

Tubes are pretty cheap for the CL-1B. I have yet to see a plugin with unlimited instances.

I think it sounds great and that Softube are one of the best in the game. It has gotten some great feedback from some heavy hitters as well.

Of course I'd love to have 2-3 hardware units.

...already been out for a while and has made them some serious dough many times over. R So, could that be said for the Tubetech hardware, too? Is that a good reason to _not_ buy something -- because they are successful with it? If that is a the right line of thinking, we should only buy things that are _not_ popular and are _not_ proven, and have been a _failure_ in the market? ;-)

No, as a product gets older, others take its place and the pricing needs to correspond with the age. That is how i bought a HW unit for $1900 instead of $3,000. There are tons of plugins out there now that are every bit as good for less money. They need to understand that and stay competitive. That's all.

I will use MAAG and Elysia for examples. They sold plugings for under $80 and got my most recent business. Had Soft tube done that, they might have gotten my business instead.

Couldn't say no and picked up the Summit Audio Grand Channel instead of the CL1B. Found it for $123 at Audiodeluxe.
I've got to stop buying plugs and invest in more HW. I have a problem, though. I'm a sucker for a good deal.

I'm a sucker for a good deal. Me too...love a good deal. Grabbed a piece of hardware instead of the Softube Trident. Ended up passing on the CL1B for now too. Didn't have time to demo and figure that I've got enough software compressors for now. Maybe I'll change my mind during the next sale.

Software prices definitely need to drop as time goes on. NI Plugin bundles can be bought now for $400 that I paid $1000 for several years ago.
