I have an editing problem with Pro Tools that I can't figure out. You'd think this would be a no brainer with the software, but either I did something to turn off a default setting or I need to make a default setting. So, if anybody can come to my rescue I'd appreciate it.
Here's the issue:
I want to move a clip to have the start of the waveform to time align at a specific place. So, I click on the time ruler and a blinking line appears vertically up and down over all the tracks in the Edit Window. Then, I scroll to the clip I want to move and zoom in to the exact place I want to align. However, when I use the grabber to grab the clip to move it, the vertical line disappears!!!!! So, I have no idea exactly where to place the beginning of the waveform since my time selection line has disappeared.
If anybody could help me, I'd appreciate it.

Cant you use "Spot" editing (top left corner) and just enter the time ( it asks you when you go to move region in this mode,) bar or sample you want it placed (region.)

or select the region, copy/cut it, go set your time marker and paste?

Thanks Guys. So,you're saying I can't do this visually, I have to enter numbers? I was hoping I could do it visually. Strange that its not an option.

Strange that its not an option. you can do what i suggested visually... unless i'm misunderstanding? i mean you won't see your cut region, but you'll see exactly where you get the blinking timeline, paste, and then you can just grab and slide accordingly after the paste.

You have 'Timeline [the blinking line] follows edit selection' (I believe that's the words..) selected in prefs. Generally I like that. I'm sure there's a number of ways doing what you want to do. I'm not a PT expert at all, but this is how I would do: Fold in the left side of the region exactly to the 'cue spot' (you could always fold out later), then place the time line where you want to move the region. Now CTRL-click on the region you want to move and it will automatically jump to the time line position.
I use CTRL-click and CTRL-drag a lot, the latter when you want to move a region to another channel but need to make sure it won't move sideways.

Okay. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to fold in the clip to the precise beginning, but if I have to do that its cool. One last question, since I'm trying to time align a guitar part that has 3 mics: Can I time align three clips simultaneously?
Thanks to all who have helped!!

PT has so many features so there probably is a better way. Re editing more than one track simultaneosly, you'll have to group them. And make sure group settings for that group includes editing.
