What would be your 2 buss processing for Singer Songwriter Folk Rock?
This is an acoustic guitar, heavy-ily fx electric guitar, male vox, and at least 3 guitar tracks on every song.
I already have vp28's. This is all mixed ITB in PT. He likes clarity but when I made it clear he wanted it warmer and less polished. The vp28's may do it but I am still wanting something else.
Pairs of what I have: vp28, Actions, Pico 502, V14.
Thanks

stereo subs for like instruments treated with stereo compressors, i love the la3a on acoustic instruments over just about anything, that said, if you want a 70's record sound with what youve got, send stereo stems round trip into you vp's and recapture, hit the heck out of the inputs, and back off the outputs, that will give you some of the coolest compression mojo available imo(yes, vp's are great compressors when hit hard 8), rinse repeat 8)
To be clear, i recently ran an entire mix 4 tracks at a time into the vps/lc53 doing exactly this, it sounded killer without a single change otherwise. If you do this, let us know what you think?

Btw Patrick, have you wired up you belden mic cables yet? If so, what do you think?

Just HW or are you looking for plug suggestions ? Well... I am trying to build up my hardware. I would like to eventually move to some sort of hybrid set up if money and space allow. For now I am just looking for that 2 buss glue. The vp28's get me almost there but they may add a little to much aggression for this artist. Now the last album they were just what the doctor ordered. I may need to hurry up and get my 2 NV73 built and try them out. I tried my modded gap 73's but there is to much difference between the two units.

What about comps do you have ?
I see cowboy is selling his 7802 an optal comp might be nice: it does 2:1 stereo and you can select how much you drive the tube ?
Personally I really like UA's ampex on the 2 bus !

Mix analog, leave off the comps, send some clean tracks to mastering.
Worked in the 1960's, 1970's 1980's and then the 90's messed it all up.

Signal chain has nothing to do with type of music, It's what works for the song.

Same as kcat, I like the UAD Ampex on the 2 bus. I try to get the tone I want first, then use the 30 ips mastering preset, adjusting input and output to taste will give you quite a lot of what you're looking for, in a very easy to use way. Take extra care to find the right reverb setting if you are using reverb. I switch between the Relab's large room/HD and medium room/HD. The difference is remarkable. Sometimes I have it set to large by default, then change to medium, and voila! way better vibe.
cowboycoalminer swears by the UAD Ocean Way studios room emulation, but I haven't tried it yet. His tracks do sound like they were done in a world class studio, so that might be worth looking into.

For me, I would have to agree and especially for this kind of genre..... with the leave stuff off the 2 buss. I have said it before here somewhere... Bob Olhsson is the best 2 buss compressor I have ever used.... 8) I know some guys really like 2 buss processing and mix into it. I have never gotten great results... anytime I end up with something on the 2 buss.. its because I am so far down the track with the mix and I am doing some sort of sonic repair. of course.. mixer emptor cheers Wiz

Signal chain has nothing to do with type of music, It's what works for the song. Well, he is going for a unified texture since this project was recorded in 3 different locations. I like to get as close to what the client wants before handing off to mastering.
