Isn't it time for a high quality dsp meets analog verb in 500 series from Bricasti or someone? They have other stuff like delays and chorus' in 500 series. I am wanting a nice switchable mono to stereo verb to put the band all in the same space before mixing. I mix several outside projects every year and they are almost always overdubbed at different studios. I have tons of plugs, but it would be fun to have a 500 series version to play with.

I expect that most decent verbs need the 19" format so they have space to include an LCD screen to display settings. Probably not worth the hassle to try and jam it into 500 series.

Man...Bricasti "Rooms" 500 verb ...$999. I'm game. Although, what really is the advantage if it's dsp? You talking just routing the 2 mix through it?

It would about have to be dsp in 500 series. That is a tight box to put stuff in unless it was 3 or 4 rack spaces. I was thinking just a couple of natural medium to large rooms that create some air around instruments that work well with plugin verbs also. They could do something similar to the Bettermaker products and make it usb and work a plugin inside the DAW, too.

That would be a short plate in a 500 module. I keed I keed.
Hey - I'm all for it. How cool would it be to have a Bricasti box in 500. Essentially it would be a single for their software.

That was supposed to say "dongle for their software". They should do one for each - rooms, chambers, etc. then do the USB thing like you said.

I think Casey has been very vocal about not doing software...but this could solve the problem. It's a hardware dongle. Man, and to be able to get in at a lower price? Sign me up.

A few issues with that concept:
No 5 volt power rails for the 500 racks, you would need at least a couple of amps.
No space for the display and rotary controls.
There are 6 Analog Devices Blackfin processors in this box, the computation power of about 10 Core 7 Intel processors. That is why software 'emulations' are impossible with today's computers. There is also a fan that's too wide for a 500 rack module, this thing gets hot inside.
I remember back in the 1980's when AE's wished for a Lexicon 224 in a one rack box, they got the PCM 70. Bricasti is available in a one rack box, very convienent and practical, far more than that 500 format. If you want one, they are available for about $3800. That's quite a bargain considering that lexy 224 costs $9000 new in 1983 dollars.

From my outlook here. I have the RTZ 500 racks which have built-in fans to keep everything cool. I suggested two settings for the verb, so there is little need for a large and cumbersome display. Just nice natural environment rooms that need no tweaking with dsp chip choices that could be dropped in to alter the rooms. Engineers make things smaller everyday, surely there is a way to do this. Eric Ingram proved you could make a great sounding full channel strip in single slot 500 series. Everyone said that couldn't be done a few years ago. I think it can be done if someone put their mind to it. It would probably have to be one of the companies that already do verbs to make it feasible price-wise in 500 series.

Ia smaller set of verbs ala "rooms" would surely not require six chips. Anyway, no biggie this is just thinking out loud.

I've seen low cost digital reverb pcb's from China that would fit and work, but not a lot of tweeking is possible. They run on low power so a 5 volt regulator could be fitted. Can't remember where I saw them, they were like $30 or so and had a 16 position rotary program switch.
Even a basic Lexicon style verb using a codec and 4 4016 style memory chips could work. The problem is none of those will sound anything close to the Bricasti.
Everything that happens in the Bricasti stays in the Bricasti.
