Think there's any quality loss? I'm running out of Mogami xlr to 1/4 cables and instead of spending $100, I thought I might just buy a couple xlr to 1/4 adapters to plug into the patchbay. Yea or nay?

Sure, lots of studios have them and use them. I'm not sure why anyone would think there would be any quality loss through an adapter than didn't happen through a cable...

Nah, don't be scared off. A cable can have connection issues just like an adapter can. besides, usually the adapters just have tiny cables inside, so think of it as a very short cable with a shell.

I used to use them, with the same results as Wiz.
I made the mistake of getting a good-quality cable tester, and tested all my cables last time I recabled the studio. I only found a few flaky cables, but every single one of the trs-xlr adapters was flaky. I tested them with 18" patch cables, and just moved the connectors around with very little pressure. The tester would light up like a Christmas tree for each and every one, I was using about 8. I now know why I used to have mysterious connection problems that I would take 1/2 an hour to try to track down, and suddenly the problem would be gone.
I understand what Svart is saying, theoretically adaptors should be fine, but I would never use one again.
