Looks like a fairly tight-knit community here, so I thought I'd introduce myself.
The name's Dylan; I'm a composing musician who has been performing on-off for the past couple of decades. Performing twice weekly with a 5 piece (sax) jazz/funk/soul band in a smokey little jazz club in Melbourne/Australia has probably been the highlight of my experience as a gigging muso. I carted a '77 Mark I Stage Rhodes (among other digital keys) with me to every performance and it just made all the difference to our intimate sound. It was great drawing in curious 21st century souls from off the sidewalk and getting them up to dance!
Having moved to a more rural location to raise a family, I'm not currently in a band, so I've turned my attention to recording, producing, and mixing. I have established some connections with a number of "one man band" style musicians in the area and have been helping add things like keys/strings/pads and other producer style stuff to their compositions and then mix them. I'm really enjoying the fresh look on music working with others - maybe even more than composing originals for my own band. There are some amazingly talented people in this world!
I've recently started a business too - an online web-store, which I'm launching in the New Year. It's another online pro audio store, except that my goal is to make it community based - insofar as I will take on board suggestions and requests from the community in terms of features/services and most importantly, in what we stock and sell. I've developed partnerships with a number of high end brands from across the globe that don't currently distribute in Australia.
There is a massive home/project studio demographic in Australia. We have a massive per capita number of performing musicians, backyard producers and the list goes on. Yet for some reason, we miss out on so many awesome products because we're disconnected from the rest of the world. We also have a strong incentive in our importation laws to avoid purchasing anything from overseas that is valued over $1000AUD, so my own frustrations as a consumer have lead me down this path.
So I've got plenty to keep me busy, but if anyone has any material they'd like to share for me to mix, I'd be grateful! I'm (hopefully) at an intermediate stage in terms of mixing skill and any feedback I could get from more experienced mix engineers at this point would be amazing.
Looking forward to chewing the fat with y'all!
Cheers,
Dylan
