I have been looking for an alternative forum to GS to chew the pro audio fat. I am only new to GS and have already grown a little tired of all the crazy fourth hand anecdotal advice warfare haha. I won't hijack the thread though! Maybe I should introduce myself elsewhere. Couldn't help but comment on the Retro unit. I would sure love me one and a 176.

Well, it turns out that I went a bit crazy this year. I'm really happy with a bunch of stuff. I'll say the Summit EQP-200. A little heft and a little silk for every mix.

Bought a bunch of carbon composition resistors and built a couple of these and a LC53a.

In 2014, I'm especially happy with the Heritage DMA-73 preamp, Warm WA76 compressor, Samson S-Patch Plus patch bay, Analog Man King of Tone overdrive pedal, Sonuus Wahoo digitally-controlled analog pedal, MiniDSP Dirac room-correction system, and SVS SB-2000 subwoofer. Plus a bunch of software.
The great thing is I sold over $10,000 worth of stuff that I no longer wanted or haven't used for years, so I got to buy a bunch of toys without feeling guilty.

If I could pick the "most fun", it would be between the King of Tone and the Wahoo, but that would be cheating!

It's a 3 way tie for me. The 10 RTZ preamps, the 1549 eq's and the Great River 501's work so great together, I can't imagine not having that chain now. They are the ideal sound in my head.

How are the 2030's? I really like 3 ways. On topic, RM Superbeast. Here's my get out of jail card. I don't have a lot of experience with higher end monitors.. Having said that I love them my room is well treated but these monitor's have transformed my mixing, Reverb tails, Bass ( I can hear it now), Vocal compression setting , sound scape . Full range monitoring is a game changer for me and mixing on the events translates very well to other systems. My first new mix on these monitor's sent to my mate his response "Everything is in the right place, what did you do?" Event 2030 Interesting. I've had my eye on those 2030's. Might be time to take the plunge..

For me it would be a toss between property to build a new studio/CRM or the Innertube Audio U87 tube retrofit which is pretty $#@! cool. If gear, the Innertube, but of you can count land, then the property, no doubt.

For individual channels mine was the UA LA2A compressor I bought. For the entire mix the Smart C2. Superb glue.

On my 4-5 most recent album mixes I've felt quite content and felt my work has improved one small notch. Since I'm not doing anything different, I believe the Pulse techniques EQP-1As (with NOS tubes from Proaudiotubes) must be part of the reason. That's $7,000.00+ for one small notch improvement. That's rare air Paul. Well done.

I'm about to find out if this subwoofer i bought today will be the best purchase.
It's a jbl lsr4312 which matches my 4300 series monitors.
I ran it through the calibration procedure, and I'm making some mixes to test it.

Probably the monitoring. Polk RTi A3 speakers, Emotiva XPA-200 power amp, Emotiva DC-1 DAC.
but then there's all this other great stuff!! mostly it just feels like a year of development and refinement. I hope to continue with the pace I'm on.
