Neumman U89. Just took a punt and decided to get one after I heard good reports of the capsule being the same as the U67 which I have heard before and liked. So I am waiting for it to arrive. I like the idea of 5 polar patterns and I love transformer equipped devices. So has anyone used one before and would like to share there experiences with me both good and bad?

It's not even related to the U67 cap. It's not even center terminated. It's their....ehm...."better" design. The capsule was also used in the TLM193/170. To this day, I don't know that I've ever gotten as sweet acoustic tracks as I did from the 193. Also, used it as an overhead, where it was nice....and I had a particularly shrill guitar amp at one point--that was the fave mic on that. The capsule has a dip where the 67/87 has a bump--around 5khz--so, it tends to smooth things and make them fall backwards in a mix.

I have a tlm193 so it shall be interesting to compare. Thanks for the info. I think you are right about the u67 capsule, I have done some digging and I think I have had incorrect thoughts on the now no shared capsule design between the u67 and u89.

K-89 is 3/4" diameter, edge terminated capsule. It sounds fantastic. I put one into a Chi-com MCA SP-1 I sold to Ty Ford, it's an excellent sounding mic.

Just about my favorite current Neumann mic. Smaller "LDC" capsule (as mentioned, also shared with the TLM170) and very flat sounding. Much nicer than the nasal sounding 87.
