Well I cant cough the $$$$$ for a dedicated summing box since the ones I like (Burl Vancouver, Dangerous 2-Bus) run as much as a compact console like the new-ish VeniceF. Does anyone have direct experience with this thing, or have suggestions in the 2-2.5K $ price range?
My recording project has developed an expanded scope. Now we are talking about putting a band together, which changes the direction of gear purchase. I want to get something that plays well during mixing/summing and can also support the odd live gig.

I've got one, but it hasn't seen much use yet. I was having trouble interfacing with Pro Tools when I first picked it up. When recording I was getting some pops and clicks. It seems like selecting the Venice each time I open a Pro Tools session, rather than letting the template default to the Venice has solved the problem. I haven't run into this issue while mixing old projects yet though. It just seemed a bit flukey, but has been working out okay. Also, the EQ section is VERY cramped. Try to put your hands on one before committing. I decided that I could live with the cramped EQ because of the value of feature set. I got a 32 channel board with pres, eq, AND conversion that allows me to mix out of the box with my outboard gear for less than an Aurora 16 that I was considering getting. Sure, I wish it had some additional features (more busses, 500 slots, etc.), but even if I got a 1608, there are features that I would still be wanting.

I've got one, but it hasn't seen much use yet. Thanks for the info! How's the analog side? The noise specs are pretty good. Can you tell me, do the specs translate into a quiet board? Also, how loud is the internal fan? Hopefully not very... Using the FW side is not a must for me. Nice to have, but not critical. I would use it along with my Apollo as aggregate audio at 44.1/24 anyway. Still interested.

Why not the dangerous 2bus LT? Same thing minus a feature.

Try to put your hands on one before committing. Unfortunately, this is a problem for me. The Phoenix area is in the middle of a desert, in more ways than one. For such a big city, there is very little pro audio beyond GC/Sam Ash. Not good. The cramped EQ is not a big deal to me. In fact, the EQ bypass switch is one of the attractive features.
