I don't need them, nor do I need another project (current projects 2 M49s, Drip Pultec, Drip Sta-level, patchbays - every frigin jack in the place with room to grow, new desk for the Status and bays racks and get the 440-8 and 440 1/2 track up and running) But I found some TAD Woofers at an unbelievable price $100ea so I grabbed a pair and might grab 2 more! These are the TL 1603s not the 1601a's or b's But I have always liked the higher power handling and lowend! The plan is each in a 7.5 cu ft box tuned to around 27Hz and 4002s, I like the light 4002s the neodinyum magnets don't scare me hanging off horns. Cheap horns till I can find /afford TH4001s or nice copies. If I don't pick up another pair of 1603s thes will be similar to Exclusive 2404s only bigger! if I buy another pair of 1603s Think Augsperger 215Vs. Soo many projects so little time!

18" professional drivers? wow. that'll shake the nuts out of your tree.
Never really been a fan of compression drivers for high end. I'd personally prefer a 3 way system if you're going that big!

18" professional drivers? wow. that'll shake the nuts out of your tree. Never really been a fan of compression drivers for high end. I'd personally prefer a 3 way system if you're going that big! They are 16in a larger 15, As a rule, I dislike compression drivers as well and prefer a 3 way as well, my favorite HF Device is the line source true ribbon found in the Magnepan MG3.3s that sit in my living room area. There is an exception to every tool and The TADs are that exception when mated to the right horn. These are the drivers you find in Most Augspergers, and Rom Hidley spec'ed Rooms. They use a Deposited Berilyum Diaphragm, Not formed like the Truextent found in Radian and JBLS, Radian offers a Mylar / Aluminum Replacement for the TADs which is far less expensive, but you do get what you pay for in this one. Detail isn't quite up there with the Magnepans Dynamic life and absolute authority is second to none! The first pair of Exclusive 2404s I heard many, many years ago were like nothing else, The well maintained properly Tuned Augspergers at Musichead/ Sound Sumitt had the same properties, but a little less focus. The other thing is we are talking about here is a system that while spec'ed at 97db 1w/1m real world 95db 1 w/1m 30-14k! You can get by with a 35-50 watt amp, but they will take 400 as a system and give you all the micro and macro dynamic detail in the world. I was introduced to the 2404s by a guy who had gone from double Quad ESLs to heavily modded ESL63s to TAD 2404 that he had to import himself! He still has them and keeps telling me he will be buried with them, I have convinced his wife that would be a waste! I have used the Earlier 4001 CD in some custom 2 way boxes (4.5 cu ft can't remember the tuning) and found That the horn has to mate correctly with these drivers, my favorite DDS's didn't sound any thing like the Wooden TADs or Jackson's . The Fostex wooden horns were a disappointing and amazingly an old Pair Emilar 2" throats brought more of what the TAD wooden horns brought than TADs own composite Horns did. This is also the Driver combination used in the old Firehouse Productions stage wedges, using the small TAD horns I didn't find exciting , but they are still probably the only wedge I would ever use as a studio monitor. Do some research my freind, was thinking Of a ATC/ Volt based system, but I keep remembering what these can do!
