Looking for something with the following, haven't found one that fits yet:
AD/DA
8+ channels of adat in and out
DB-25 in
Preamps optional - they'd be handy but I don't necessarily need them.
Anyone have suggestions? The Ferrofish A16 is close, but doesn't have DB-25 in. Audient ASP-880 is nice but doesn't doesn't have DA functionality. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Most all of them....except "optional mic preamps"--which would be none of them.
Are you sure you're not looking for a computer recording interface?

Already have an interface but I'd like more analog outs. I'd love to find a converter which has adat ins/outs and analog outs, so I can 1) plug my lunchbox into the converter via DB-25 and send on to the interface via adat, and 2) send channels from the interface to the converter via adat and then to the lunchbox via analog out (DB-25 or 1/4 inch/xlr). Maybe you're right, and I should just replace my interface with one with more analog outs.

I think limiting your limiting your self with the dsub, quality Dsub to XLR snakes are comparable priced to Dsub- Dsub.
First thought if you can go XLR used Panasonic / Ramsa WDZAD96 M legendary clean pres but no SUMX ! $500-750!

It'd be nice to not have another loom on my hands but it's not a showstopper. Will check this one out.

I have a BLA modded ADA8000 that is exactly what you just described. The cost of the unit from most any supply is around $200, and BLA mods them for I think $350. Not only do they mod the conversion, they also mod the analog signal path which means the pre's are actually very good. I use it for my in/out to my lunchbox via the d-sub on the lunchbox and a breakout of female xlr on one d-sub, and 1/4 trs breakout on the other d-sub.
Don't let the name Behringer fool you, the unit stock is not bad, but after the mod from BLA it's the shit. Check it out on their site, listen to samples, but if you trust opinions I'm telling you this is in the league of conversion and preamps of apogee, maybe even better.

Neat, hadn't realized that the ADA8000 had adat in. Could be a great option with the mod.

I have the non-dynamic version of this, which is what I'm looking to replace. Cool that the dynamic version has adat-in. It's not bad! Did a bit of a shootout this weekend and preferred the RME conversion on my interface to the Focusrite conversion (you can send through inputs 1 and 2 of the octopre at line level). One nice thing about the Audient ASP880 is that you can insert directly in front of the converter and skip the pres altogether. But, no DA on that unit, and that's the main reason I'm looking for something new.

I've heard good things with the mods to that unit as well. I'm not positive if they do any conversion modification or if it's to just the pre's though. The ADA to me (and BLA also says this) is probably the best night and day mod they do. It's pretty incredible, and if you've got a good clock it makes it even more impressive. I would get another but I don't need it. I run an aggregate setup in PT with an Apollo and an Ensemble, both having Adat I/O so my I/O count with another would be high enough to use a 32ch console, which I'm still considering pending a pretty big project I have on the horizon. tonycamphd has be bought into the Delta, he would also be someone to tell you about BLA, he's a big fan of what they do.

Get an older ssl alphalink. You can get the non-madi version for like 500, and you'll have 24 analog and adat i/o

Rosetta 800....used....$700-800. Dsub. 8x8 ADAT (at 96khz via 4 ports if you've got them on the interface)....AES for later. Soft overs.

Now that i've got the Delta 8, i've got a ton of already modded delta 200 channel modules, and a few masters as well, let me know if you want me to put something together for you J.
