I thought it was it was a great buy for a preassembled piece. Found it to be pretty neutral - but had a friend describe it as boring. Not sure I wouldn't go the Capi VP route and have someone build it for you. Still cheaper. The VP 312 doesn't get enough love.

Yeah, for sure, I would definitely go with a 312 from Jeff over that 511. I've heard them, honestly the pres in my BLA modded ADA8000 sound about the same. The old school approach from Jeff's gear gives you such a great sound naturally, there's no need for extra features to achieve saturation, you just crank it and it does it naturally.

I might pick up a couple of 312's. Used to have one and looking back, I miss the top end.
