A PVC elbow to turn my SM57 into a right angled one for ease of getting it into tighter places. A new 2x12 box. It's about a cubic foot larger than my other one for more low end. It'll have inset handles and internal buttressing.

The elbow is a 1/2 x 3/4 slip elbow. I chamfered the edges a little on the OD of the 1/2 side, then heated up the SM57 body a little so that it would melt the plastic. I then pretty much just screwed it on. The other side is a little bit more tricky, but it's essentially the same thing. I lengthened the wires a bit and brought them through, soldered them and then screwed it together.
Seems to work great and is more solid than you'd think.
I almost used a copper elbow, but I'd have to turn the body of the SM57 down a little in the lathe and press fit it. Figured I'd try the plastic first since it's cheaper and easier.

The box is just white pine. I went to the store looking for pre-cut 2'x4' MDF boards but they didn't have any available. I also couldn't seem to get anyone who was willing to use the store saw to cut the large MDF panels down, so I ended up just buying pine boards and a couple sheets of aspen for the front and back.
I'm not real big on using pine for speaker boxes, but I figure I can make a couple struts to buttress the insides to keep the panels from rattling. I might also add some mastic sheets if the struts don't keep the vibration down.

This is really cool C! I was thinking of making this a sticky so guys could easily add to this every weekend? Let me know if u think that's a good idea? That's cool with me. I'm always doing something over the weekend usually. Sometimes working on the house, sometimes the studio, sometimes the cars. I'm sure everyone else does too, so lets share!

You'll also notice the stand that the SM57 is on. I made a right-angle for it as well, so i could route it under the toms and up the inside of the kit for more options during micing.

Ok, Here's the start of the covering. Sparkling white. I might even paint the handles white.

Anyway, 2 weekends ago I built another design of bass cabinet. I designed in a rectangular port along the bottom of the back instead of multiple smaller ports. This reduced the chuffing significantly. it also seemed to clear up some of the low end which I attributed to too much air loading on the speakers.
This last weekend I built a mattress platform for the guest room to put my old mattress on so that friends and family finally have a place to sleep that isn't a blow up mattress.

nice look and I love the mix purpose; part cuisine part shop with the tools so handy; are these cabinets front rectangular ported then , like how they are adjustable on hinges:you think of everything:)
