That caught my attention. Could you please expand just a little bit? Is it a very subtle difference or would you recommend getting one or two VP25s in a CAPI preamp recording studio setup of like 12-16 channels? Also, how's the bottom on the Heider compared to the VP line? Big or bony? Saggy or firm?

What had you built before this? Cables? Well, I'm happy to say that my CAPI vp26s are complete and working! Overall, really great experience. I only had a couple problems: ! wasn't paying attention and stuck a diode in backwards and a small panic attack when there was no resistance between doa sockets V+ and C. Weirdly enough, I had no real problem with the op amps other than lots of squinting Between the assembly guide and chunger's thread on groupdiy this really was pretty painless, which is awesome for my 1st crack at this. I haven't had time to really give them a run through, but I'm looking forward to getting everything set up!

I did buy breadboard and a $5.00 pack of resistors to practice before I attempted, plus a bit of reading. I have soldered some cables in the past so I'm familiar with the process but this is my first venture into anything more significant than cables. I'm sure others have done this, but I kinda stuck with the method of 1) apply heat 2) count to 3 3) apply consistent about of solder You kinda get into a rhythm after a while, which really helps!

The dif in the VP25 bottom is not huge but there. It is still mid forward but not super tight like a VP26 low mid "fist", if you will. I have had pro folks tell me the bottom end on the Heider is the best of all my pre's. They say its huge. Most fav for kick drum of the lot. I will be anxious to see what you hear.....
