I'm not sure how many of you are into metal, but I really like the overall production of this song, and I'm curious how they mask the vocals at 2:57, I'm not even sure what the technique is called or what is used. At the tail end of it the rest of the song just booms back to life.
Thanks!

It can be done with any filter fx like FilterFreak etc. Or even a simple eq hi and lo passing until you get the sound you want into a saturation/distortion plug. Just filter out the lows and highs until you hear what you like. Maybe run it through a modulation effect for movement and surround it with a short reverb.

Hey MoBeach. Here's an fx chain using Reapers native fx. It starts with Reaeq for fltering into a JS saturation plug and into reacomp. Tweak to taste or add better saturation if you have it. MoBeach Vox FX.RfxChain (794 B)

Thanks a bunch! I've been playing so much bass for live bands I've fallen way behind on my DAWs. Every time I open the program it's like, duhhh what do I do again?

What they did with the vocal can be done with pretty much any EQ . You just cut all the bass freqs .

You can also automate some movement in the filters to make it sweep and open up (maybe even with a break before fully opening it up). Its a pretty dated trick to my ears, but might be to your liking. Metal? Really? Gustav
