I'm always behind when it comes to the jazz scene, but I was recently told by a friend that there is a lot of great "new" music being written, and he mentioned this kid. Really impressive. www.eldarmusic.com

I'll take a stab - - Chops until you drop - creative 'arrangement oriented' ideas - but he's young and it shows. It's a wall of sound - Once I got over the WOW, I started to find it challenging to listen through a tune - there's NEVER any space, even on tracks like "What'll I Do," which is a litmus test for these kinds of things.
A small part of it might be that the recordings are so in-your-face. Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful (I don't do much listening these days because I'm a snob and basically hate music) the lush buttery piano sound blows me away - I can't even sit at my own piano after listening - but don't you guys find this at least a tad over-compressed? My ears start to bleed just a little too early, and I'm not geeks like you guys - I'm just a geek wannabe. On the other hand - it may not be the mix, it could simply be that the music just gives my ears no time to breathe..
As a composer that will stand the test of time - right now - meh. He's a talented pitcher with a 100mph fastball. Give him a decade to figure out that he doesn't need to throw cheese all the time.
