So, recently in Nashville I had the pleasure to meet and spend time with Shannon a.k.a. @sinsay of Mic Rehab. One of the boys, a guy I had a lot in common with and immediately took to as kindred spirits in many ways. I brought 4 mics to him for repair/maintenance. What he did with my Neumann-Gefell UM57 was nothing short of AWESOME. The particular example was already the best UM57 I had ever heard but suffered from the usual quality control issues most late 50s to 60s Neumann-Gefells do. Noisy, cold solder joints, some failing capacitors and other minor things. But of course, a glorious capsule and great amplifier. So. Noise gone. Headroom increased. Tone for days. I highly recommend dealing with Shannon. Of course, be patient because he is VERY in-demand these days by the who's who of microphone owners and users amongst us. Kindest regards, Ward P.S. Shannon. Dying to get my TLM170 and M582 back!! But I'll be patient.
