no; they are different. I may not describe this well, will defer to cowboy if he wants to chime but I find the UA lex richer but the Relab more refined; its seems to envelop the signal; more ,, better so has another dimensionality to it ? I can remember when cowboy first started using his relab on the GS apollo thread; you heard the difference first recording. I know some people have trouble with the relab install but the instructions from Martin do work but the relab support can be a little MIA. If you are shopping Michael Carnes at Exponential Audio provides first class plugs and support ( quick to release AAX, updates etc.. and he maintains a open friendly presence on the net) so definitely demo Phoenix. If I was shopping hard not to say go with EA, his 2 verbs cover a lot of ground based on his Lexicon experience ( no body knows the algos better than him),now both are fully 5.1 surround and run native too for us apollo users sorry this is reading like a EA pitch now, like many I have bought a lot of plugs (Ka-ching$$$$$) and if I was buying 1, I'd go with EA now

Does thie Relab and the UA Lex do the same thing?I mean, same flavors? Not even close. A long time back, there was a special 3 for $399 plug-in offer from UAD for early adopters who'd been left out of some of the newer promotions. So, I would of course, pick the 3 most expensive plugs I wanted, right? Well, I already had the EMT-140, but needed a different sound. I used the 224 many times in studios, so I assumed I'd get that one from UAD. I demoed the UAD Lex and the Relab, and the Relab was just in another league, exciting the room, yet never losing focus. Everything sounded better with it. I couldn't go back to the 224. despite it costing $133 at the time, and the Relab costing $400, that I really didn't have at the time. Quality trumped practicality, and I got the Relab. Never regretted it. If shopping today, I might have looked at the Exponential and a few others a little closer, but the Relab's just killer.
