I've been getting these "blips" of audio when using Pro Tools (10) bounce to disk (Mac OSX 6.8). I'm pretty sure it only happens when using outboard (Sta-Level, 2-Bus through VP28's). What is this and how do I get rid of it? So annoying.

That CAN happen when doing an ITB mix using your audio interface(s)'s ins and outs as insert points. but LUCKILY, there is a way around this!
Take your stereo 2-buss out and insert them into an unused pair of inputs on your patch bay after you get the mix exactly the way you want it. In Pro Tools, set up a new stereo track. Select the inputs of this track in the screen to the inputs you plugged the stereo outs into. Engage the record button. Hit play. THe new stereo track will give you your new mix on that track.
then select the new track, export it as a complete file.
start a new blank session. Import the stereo track you just exported and edit it as you see fit.
Done.

oh... one last thing. Make certain that on the new track you choose "no output" on the new stereo tracks output option when you record (bounce it down).

Do you have a way to print the tracks instead of bounce? I used to use the bounce but I always had issues with it. The way I do it now is set the output of my aux two buss return to an internal aux output and then a stereo audio track with the input set to the aforementioned internal aux output from your aux return, then set the audio track outputs to your monitor outs and hit record. Really that is one of the best ways to do it, there is no way to inadvertently down/upsample or mess up the bit depth, it will just print the track to whatever your session is at.
From there you can highlight the track in protools and over on the dropdown menu for the regions list select "export file" and it will give options to export in another format if you want. Just another way of doing it, Ward's way is one way, that way is another.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, I've been setting up an audio track on the 2-bus return and just recording that as a workaround to the bounce. Just curious to know why the bounce to disk screws this up?

I think a lot of it is to do with the converters and using inserts, like I said, I've never been able to get it to work well, also, I just don't freaking trust it. If its doing things like that, what if it does things you can't hear? Crazier things have happened, just easier to PRINT the file, and it assures you're capturing what you're hearing too.
