Welcome drsax! Have a good time here at RGO. Lot's of nice, talented and helpful people here.
I am sure we will get alot of honest and qualified user reviews of svart's final product for reading at this board as soon as the first batch of converters is out...

I've been lurking here for a while and it's nice to see good useful threads here. "The other site" has been increasingly frustrating the last few years and as a full time audio professional, I've been enjoying the discussions here. Much more useful. Looking forward to seeing how Svart's units stack up against others. Excellent conversion is grossly overpriced these days so this project has my interest for sure!

There's already a handful of threads on the forum with the converter being put up against the Apollo, Burl, and others. Some even have clips you can listen to.

Oh man. Those are the shots everybody has been looking for! Naw, we're all looking for a finished unit rather than the prototype.

Ok... so I'm way late to this party... but I just listened to all these files. I also level matched them and I gotta say. I hear better detail between transients on the Svart than on the other converters. Really dug the Svart and the Symphony, but I hear the low level detail better on the Svart. I'm listening through some extremely detailed monitors (SLS PS8r's) in a great acoustically treated room. Ironically I'm listening back via Lavry Blue Converters which are the ones I am looking to upgrade from. But even so, the difference in detail and width is definitely noticeable here. I do dig the little extra punch in the lows and mids on the symphony - but, for monitoring, I'd prefer detail and accuracy any day. And the Svart definitely outperformed the RM on my system. Would love to grab one of these when they become available!

Anything else I need to know?

What op amps does this proto unit have? Also, how is this proto different from what a production unit will be? Anything else I need to know? The proto uses the same opamps as the production will, the ADA4898-2. The proto is almost identical, except that the production unit increased the AC coupling caps on the inputs of the ADC, increased the bandwidth of the anti-aliasing filter slightly on the ADC. On the DAC, I changed the I/V filter bandwidth slightly and decoupled the CP stage of the DAC IC slightly differently for better noise immunity. You won't hear much, if any, difference between the proto and the production units. Most of this stuff is just tuning housekeeping stuff, for noise immunity and flatness, mainly to make the datasheet look really really good instead of just really good.. I don't think there is anything else you'll need to know besides how to set up your interface to handle the incoming and outgoing SPDIF signals. Hopefully that's in the documentation for your interface.

C'mon. They all want the name, svart.
Hm. Maybe it's name is "Jehovah"?

So, it's gonna be like the club with no name? You know, every big city has a place where only the cool people know it's there.
I think the graphics look good, and that you should at least have a name up front, otherwise it'll look like something made in shop class at school. That's OK too, I guess, but I think you deserve a little acknowledgement Svart, so maybe name it something that can connect back to you, where people can find it online.
