Guys, you might get a hint what could be improved from reading what Ross did in the MK2. Not much (but important) changes...the 4 layer board...and...yupp...psu. You might get the picture. It's one of the obvious mod targets...Ross himself upgraded it... This said, RM seems not to sell the MK1 anymore anyway.

A couple updates. I've done the mods that Dan had suggested, and I'll have data and such later today. The bezels came in, and he's a first look at a unit with it's shirt on!

Cool svart. What were those mods? Not that I'd fully understand, but I'm curious.

dan was telling me that he modded his unit by replacing the electrolytic caps in with film caps, or the other way around. Can't remember.

The mods I did beefed up the decoupling and local power storage around each of the opamp power rails. Super easy and nothing new. It made a really nice difference. I am very curious to hear what Svarts box sounds like with this done to it. I also had to re mount the heatsinks on my opamps. The Svart Box wont need that because he's got that built into his design.
BTW, Both the RM and Svart box had more then enough decoupling technically. So, its not like they where not done correctly.

Yeah man - that looks really great! Are you gonna do any silkscreening? (Not that it needs it) Did you arrive on a name?

Dan got his Superbeast before the MK2 was out, AFAIK. So, yes.

Ok, thanks Martin. It would be interesting to see how Svart's new mod compares now.

I hope you tackled the 5db output difference: Here you can see that the track is being sent into the I/O plugin, which is sending it in and out of the SPDIF connections on the MOTU. You'll notice that Output 11-12 (SPDIF) shows a peak level of -12db, whereas the I/O plugin's output shows a peak level of -17db. The faders labeled MOTU SPDF and SYMPHONY are not applicable; they're bus 2 and bus 3, and as you can see in the picture, the sends to those busses are bypassed.
