I thought it was already named the "Svartacus"? It's be awesome if you put up the 3 finalist names you came up with an putem in a poll on the main thread!?!?

Another update simply because I'm stoked..
I got the DAC board and ADC board talking over I2C. I also condensed the code somewhat to only show if the DAC is NOT PRESENT, LOCKED or UNLOCKED. There was really no reason to show a MUTED status as I've made the DAC mute the outputs if the SPDIF signal is not present so there shouldn't be any pops or noise when the DAC isn't connected.
I'll need to make sure that there aren't any glitches in the code though. I've seen the LOCKED status twitch over to UNLOCKED for a split second a few times, so I don't know if it's a polling issue or if there is actually a time where it comes unlocked. I doubt it's real though, since I've never experienced any glitch/hiccup issues while listening to either the DAC or the ADC, although I am now running the MUTE pin through the micro instead of a jumper from chip to chip, which could cause a glitch if the code isn't right.
Plugging the SPDIF output of the ADC into the SPDIF input of the DAC gives me a lock at all settings.

Got a name yet? If you wait any longer, it's forever going to be known as the Svartbox, if it isn't already. Gonna call it the Schwartz. "I see your Schwartz is as awesome as mine!" Not really, but I'm working on a name still.. That would be awesome! "May the Schwartz be with you!"

Ok, an update. I've been thinking about the system and my original ideas for options. I think I've come to the conclusion that I will indeed sell the ADC and DAC separate, I will not include an LCD in a DAC/chassis-only order. So if you order a DAC board and a chassis, there will be no LCD included and the front bezel will be blank. I'm doing this for a couple reasons. One, because the DAC is fully automatic and it sets the bit depth and sample rates entirely upon the incoming signal. There is no user-adjustable settings for the DAC board anyway, so why install an LCD and buttons if there is nothing to control? The LCD driven by the ADC will have a DAC lock status line simply for the user's information. Two, because I've investigated the option of having a unified software that works on either board, but it's too much to develop properly by myself in a short period of time, and I would have to make a few changes to the hardware design to make it completely functional. Honestly I can't sink much more money into this and spend much more time on it without actually producing the units. However, when someone orders an ADC/LCD board upgrade, I'll send a new bezel to replace the blank one. I'll also gladly accept people sending me units for upgrade without cost, if they don't feel up to doing the upgrades themselves, provided shipping costs are paid. The installation of the option boards isn't as simple as I had intended, but it's as simple as I can make it without backing of a company who produces products like this. There will be some technical knowledge needed, but no soldering or anything like that. As for the design, I'm tweaking the front bezel again and finally going to look into the silkscreening more heavily. I've found an ink that works well on these chassis but now I need to decide if I'm going to print them, or have someone else do it. I also have a prototype unit that I'm buttoning up to send to Johnkenn. It took a few more days than expected due to family and work stuff this past week.

I am keeping a close eye on this thread. This is the first day I saw it, and I am very interested to hear all the details! I was currently looking at the Burl B2, but I am still holding out...I can't wait to hear the feedback on these A/D-D/A converters!

I'm really looking forward to hearing this when you're finished Svart. I can't commit now because I just can't afford any new gear at this time, but I will definitely put the Svart Box on the short list.

Like it a lot... Don't think the market will be very big for the DA stand al-own. What RU going to call them??
RGO Speedwagon is still my fav:)

Already looks sexier than a RM, even with the paper on the panel!

It's been proven on a sub-atomic level that our thoughts influence the cellular structure of objects we perceive. If the Svart Box looks cool, it can only help the sound, crazy as that seems.

I actually like the clean aluminium look too it's a good clean design svart and it is inherently appealing; good work dude !

I'm thinking of getting rid of the center holes and putting a single one behind a sticker on the front panel. I'll be pretty tied up this weekend but I'll try to do some more work on the mechanical stuff. I need to add the mounting holes for the bezel to the front panel drill guide I made.

Yeah, I've tried to keep it somewhat quiet simply because I'm afraid of being totally overwhelmed with expectations and with orders. It's finally coming to the end though, and I can't wait to make some folks happy and finally take a little break too.

I am still reading up on it, just taking forever to hunt down the info. I was planning on getting a Burl B2, but I am still researching. I can't wait to hear/read results.
