Anybody watch this on HBO? Sorry if someone has already started a thread - I haven't searched. I just watched the first one about Chicago and really enjoyed it. Steve Albini is an interesting cat. I remember the first time I heard "In Utero"...I was just taken aback. It kind of scared me...then I couldn't stop thinking about it. I never got in to "Nevermind" - I think mostly because I didn't discover it until after it was popular - then I just wasn't interested. But I thought IU was just soooo much more authentic. It still blows me away. Just makes me want to break shit. I admire these guys in the doc for going out and being who they really are/were...they didn't let people tell them what to think - although I think some of them might be a little nuts. I was kind of bummed when the Foo Fighter's started that song they ended up with...then it started picking up and was bad ass by the end. Can't wait to watch some more.

I'd love to watch it but it's inaccessible outside the US, thumbs down! Hope this will be available as a bonus DVD with the CD.

I love anything with Steve Albini. That dude is one of the smartest/most insane people I've ever seen. I think the doc put it well; he's righteous, to a fault.
The DC episode was such an inspiration. Crazy how much an underground culture can affect history 10, 20, 30 years down the line.

It was also kind of depressing seeing how talented these guys were...

The only thing that was really off for me was the fact that everyone seemed to be having fun. Totally not what a studio session feels like. There should have been more yelling and less laughter.

Looking forward to watching the show. Albini's recordings always sound spectacularly good to me. Up there with the best of the fifties and sixties. And the techniques he uses are usually very useful.

There should have been more yelling and less laughter. they need to put metallica in there with the camera crew from real houswives of ____, that would be some catty shit right there 8) It's hard not to like Dave Grohl, he's really got his album promotion thing down to a science like i've never seen!

Well, she does a lot of.....wait--that's not what I meant. I just meant if I needed an antidote to the music he favors.

Big fan of Dave here. When I saw pics of him in the studio during the Nirvana Era with a Bonham hat I knew his thinking was in the right place. They scared me at first, I thought they were killing off the concept of lead guitar. I shouldn't have worried. A great band, and now the Foos carry the Rock banner, IMHO. Someone other than the Old Guard has to; there has to be new music, new blood, or Rock will slowly fossilize.

Well, Dave seems to be the young boy he was back in the days, just older. Therefore - they just write music the way rock should be made. I guess this is his "secret" - it is not a secret at all, he tells everyone who wants to hear it. Sit down with a guitar and a piece of paper and a pen, listen, beeing able to "wow!" like a kid if something sounds cool...tadaa, a rock song... kind of that. It works for him...and yes - they were talented guys, and you cannot learn talent. But there are alot of talented people all around the world....
