Any of you guys ever get a piece of gear in the mail that's all damaged? How did you resolve the situation?

Physical signs to the outside of the package? If that's the case and you had insurance should be a pretty straightforward process, just file a claim, take pics and sit and wait for a check. It does help to call and bitch them out about 2 times day, expedites the process by a week or so.

If its US postal, take it to a post office. " main office " is better bring box as well as gear , all documents. If its insured I have found them to be much easier to work with than UPS OR FEDEX!

Sent via fed ex. Terrible packing. Single layer of bubble wrap and a bunch of balled up newspaper. Have you had sellers issue a refund without much hassle or had to deal with the whole PayPal protection thing? Any luck with PayPal if the seller is a dick?

Unless he had FedEx pack it you are screwed , unless he is a nice guy or you have picks ! Wish eBay would add a rating for quality of packing!

When you file a claim through Paypal it immediately takes the funds away from the seller, so he has to prove he adequately packed the item or you will be asked to send it back to him and once it ships they'll refund you the money. It gets held in an escrow account until the claim is settled. My advice, call up Paypal and file the claim, get someone there on your side by being extremely nice and it will go your way. I've had my run in's with them and as long as you've got proof and are respectful they'll help escalate it.

Make sure you leave negative feedback (don't know if it was eBay or an iTrader transaction). I've had really good luck with the exception of one used purchase so I know most people are conscientious of their packing jobs. For those who aren't they and their potential buyers need to know. Bummer situation, I hope you have success with your recourse.
