My 2 favorite pres with great DI's are CAPI VP312 and the Great River pre. Both are fantastic and I used them for years before I built my DI. So, if you are going for another pre/DI combo I recommend one of those 2. I agree. DI on the Great River pre (either in 500 or stand alone format) is fantastic. I also like the DI on the Heritage 73jr when I need a bit of colour!

DI signal runs through the input and output transformers. You might want to also try a Countryman Type 85 through your CAPI Heider's. I can't imagine that could ever sound bad!

I haven't tried the Lola or others mentioned but when I think great bass, great DI....
API all day! I can't get over the sound of this circuit, and the DI as well, I just love it
512c if you have a lunchbox, 3124 if you need four in a rack, Classic API if you can build your own.
mine for the record are customized VP312 with Cinemag input transformers and GAR2520 op amps, I use them every day.
Radial JDI into SCA N72 is my alternate path, for a much bulkier and somewhat softer tone.

I really like the DI on my Heritage DMA-73. I can get anything from ultra-clean to Jack Bruce distortion. Me too. I DI everything through this fine piece including my pedal steel. Mine is off for repair. PS took a shit on me.
