Just curious if anyone here owns the Miktek C5s. I just acquired a matched pair for use for overheads, but haven't had a chance to test them out on the drums yet. I have tried one on my steel string, and I will keep my opinion to myself until I hear your thoughts.
I'll be using them as overheads next week.

I heard an acoustic track from Johnkenn on the other forum that sounded great. Got me interested in grabbing a pair.

yeah - they're really good...I also have an Omni cap for it that I haven't really tried yet. Not nearly as bright as a 451...Takes eq well...I would say on par with the KM184's...

I was with them for 4 yrs and from day one they are great mics and great people Hi Shannon, Thanks for the info. Are you saying you're not with Miktek anymore? Actually, I was curious about all that since you're doing the CV4 mods. The sn of mine are in the 1100s, so I guess there is a possibility you built them? Pretty cool! I guess since this thread has gotten some replies, I'll chime in with my thoughts. Again, I have only tried the C5 on acoustic guitar so far, but I find the C5 to be exceedingly bright (at least on my particular guitar). It has this peak at 11kHz that really brings out a "jangly" quality of my pick against the strings. I guess some people might describe 11kHz as "air" as opposed to "brightness," but at least in this case, it's way too much pick attack, as opposed to air. No disrespect intended. And I don't have an AKG 451 (yet) to compare the brightness. Also, there's a shootout that was posted on Youtube recently that included the C5 and KM184, and I was a little shocked that the C5 was the brighter of the two. If you have any ideas in terms of C5 placement on a steel string Martin, please chime in. By the way, my steel string arrangements are usually just guitar pieces. This is not country with acoustics in the background, and I imagine that makes a big difference in mic choice. (I've never recorded anything close to country) Regardless, I think they're going to work very well as overheads, and I look forward to using them in a few days for that purpose. Thanks

I think we were on SN 1500+ when I left. I've built the first about thousand of the CV4 And other models myself then we hired another guy There were three of us when I left. So somewhere in that line I in some touched every one. I programmed the laser serial numbers. Jamison and John are The ones holding down the fort now. First off I chose to be with Miktek when they started. You're honestly not going to get another mic of that value for that type of money. I know what you speak of That's the same reason why the CV4 Mod came about. But when you're making them for masses it's hard to please everybody masses or not. By any means I don't want to insult you because I can't record shit most people tend to move the mics around a lot I'm sure you know that. And application. In my opinion it is a tad bright but not for everyone or everything. I don't know if that helps or not

Anyone have experience with them and the Josephson C42s? I'm looking to add a pair of SDCs and have the C42s.. was thinking Lauten or Neuamanns.

@johnkenn what were your impressions of the C42? And the Mikteks? What applications were you using them for?

Just for acoustic guitar. I thought the Miktek was less bright and bigger on the bottom.

Maybe get a pair of Mikteks for OH and move the C42 to Hi Hat and Ride duties.
