I've got a lots of trashed AKG headphones and am getting tired of putting out $100 phones to the musicians. I'm at the point of telling them to bring their own. Thinking about getting 10 of these. Are these my answer?

Are these my answer? Definitely worthy of your consideration -- and their return policy is 30 days with no restocking fee. You'd just eat return shipping if you didn't like them. Btw, I noticed that they're being used for tracking in the Chop Shop video on Louder Than Liftoffs Site -- maybe Brad has some opinions on them? player.vimeo.com/video/93789436I'll also add that as far as comfort is concerned, they're pretty decent IMO. They don't clamp your head like the HD280's, and they're a million times more comfortable than the MoreMe headphones, but not nearly as plush as the DT880s.

These Monoprice headphones have been compared head-to-head with Audio Technica ATH-M50 with very similar performance...and they are excellent for tracking with minimal leak...the ear cups are NOT made of that fake leather material that cracks and peels, and they come with two different length plug-in cables (long & short)...fully-pivoted ear-pieces and sturdy construction...I think they are a steal at this price...I have multiple pairs in my studio... I've heard good things about these too. I wonder which are more comfortable. I might try these next time for comparison.

I didn't know Monoprice made these--have to pick up a pair. I like their connector cables too--good quality that doesn't break the bank.

Maybe not the right thread for this comment but... I have found I get better vocal takes using cheap headphones that DO leak (ones that don't seal around the ears). YMMV of coarse.

Closed versus open depends on the performer. It's all about what makes them comfortable my freind that's why so many studios have so many different headphones.

YMMV of coarse. ...that's why I use the Radial Stage Bug SB-7 for my vocalist headset rig...it allows the vocalist to shut down one side of the headphones (which flip up comfortably) to minimize bleed while hearing themselves in the room as well as thru the phones...great little box and pairs well with these headphones... The comments on the extension cable said there was a lot of trouble with the female end making contact. Think I'll hold off on the cables and wait to see what Tony thinks.

The comments on the extension cable said there was a lot of trouble with the female end making contact. Think I'll hold off on the cables and wait to see what Tony thinks. The quality of construction is almost as nice as my Senny's, but not quite, the ear pad is a little less cozy, but not bad at all, and good enough for the girls i go with, they are a little small on my 100lb head, but thats the way it is on all headphones for my block. I'll givem a listen to see how they rate tonight, but so far, barring them puking into my ear holes, they seem the lower side of high end imo. I don't know about the female connectors, these are double male, but they are totally beastly! borderline too thick(don't remember the gauge), an apparent insane deal for what the seem to be. $7 for 35'!

I bought the phones. On first listen they're very nice--balanced with a full low end. And a good amount of gain too, which always seems to be needed with singers. I just ordered two more pairs so that when tracking with a couple of other folks in my home studio everyone can be on the same phones instead of a mish mash of stuff. Who knows how long these will last, but at under $20 it's a no brainer.

...I've been using these headphones for a couple of years, and they hold up very nicely...first and foremost, the earpads don't crack and peel (a big plus!) and they wipe clean very easily...they get dropped frequently, but no damage whatsoever...the plug-in cables are easily replaced if necessary (not necessary, but I added a coiled extension to mine for the vocal tracking rig)...hard to beat at twice the price, IMHO...
...BTW, they improve in sound quality after burn-in...
