I did for a while. I prefer That Sound these days. Limited sample libraries and not too much variance in the sound, but a few of the kits have given me a ton of mileage for not much money.

Matt Chamberlin....in Sound City? 96khz? SOLD. How many tunes could I get out of that? $79....how many of my new tunes you think will happen to have played the right beat for? I think it's all about whether you need a specific groove, or if you're willing to play your tune to THEIR groove you pick out. Like, if you're looking for a groove to inspire and play over....these or the built in MIDI in EZD or AD will work fine. But, if you're going to hunt through looking for "that" beat that's right for an existing groove....it will likely be like pulling teeth. I've actually thought that would be the way to go....quit coming up with grooves in my head--just grab a beat and shape a groove around THAT.

Jupp bought two times by them one package was full of wrong cuts. Wrote him about the wrong cuts, no money back, never bought again and never will.
I also did not liked that most sample packs are tracked very wet; unusable for the most mix situations. And yupp you have to write the tune to the given feel. If you have luck you will find the feel you need, if not back to programming or the real session drummer.
The older I get the lesser time I have, the more I prefer the session drummer.

Thought honestly....as many wonderful records as Matt's made....if I were gonna grab someone's beats to build a song around, has Shawn Pelton made a library? That mofo grooves like no other. In my light pussy rock world, he's a god among men. ....have you seen him when he sits in with Daryl Hall on "Live from daryl's House"? Wow. I mean--his normal drummer is a really great player--pocket man, but Shawn always takes it to another level. He's a little like Clapton is to the strat--anyone can play exactly what he's playing--nothing he plays is hard....and yet, no one can seem to make it FEEL like that when they play it.

Coincidentally, I was listening to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky: and wondered about the kick drum processing. So, I clicked on the Loop Loft interview with Omar Hakim below. Omar says the key to the song is the hi hat variation. Can these loops be cut up to provide that?

Wouldn't think so....because they're multitrack drum recordings. You're not going to (easily) be able to take the hat from one and put it with the beat from another--because there's 15 mics of bleed.

You can hire Shawn Pelton, he will send you a PT session. There are a lot of world class drummers out there who will track the drums for your song in their studio and send them to you for $300. How the hell can you beat that. The really good guys will send multiple takes, suggest song arrangements etc. So much more value and quality than using loops.

I've spent years using loops and looking for better programs, it's only forced me to become a better drummer I'm getting some nice sounds out of my Yamaha DTX electronic set, that way I don't have to invest thousands in good drum mics. I was using Sony Acid, Native Instruments, Mixcraft 6 has a ton of loops (plus it's a DAW) After all that I'm happy to be playing my own drum tracks, no one else knows what's in your head besides you. The Boss DR-880 is a great drum machine, decent sounds and it's easy to write beats with fills and link them together, but that got old too! I'd rather be playing.

Bought the Loop Loft Matt Chamberlain for RMX. Worthless. Good to know. It's tough...the divorcing of any part from the whole robs it of so much value.
