I don't know how many of you guys saw this when it was posted up at the old site during NAMM but this is really smart. I know some guys don't feel the need to have recall, I personally would be very uncomfortable not being able to bring a mix back. www.mcmilad.com/products.htmlAny users? Thoughts?

Hmm. I just take a picture, or write it down.

This thing seems to bring it back exactly the way you left it.

Seems like a decent idea on paper, but in practice it's going to probably be way more of a PITA than using a piece of paper. What if the camera moves? Then your whole rack is shaking...
Which for some, might not be such a bad thing.

It'll work for some folks. I'm still into the old grease pencil markings, notepad out for marking down settings and iPhone pictures habits myself. Certainly not a BAD idea!

So when you guys recall mixes how close do they come back? Any disaster stories?

So when you guys recall mixes how close do they come back? Any disaster stories? Recalls... Oh boy... For some years now, many bands expect absolute total recall at the push of a button, any time. We explain that it's a lot easier to do a version of the mix (vocal up/ gtr up, whatever...) while the mix is up, than to recall a mix to change stuff. Some bands might need recalls, others never will. We explain that working with analog mixer and outboard we get a great sound and excellent workflow, but that we have to pay attention to what we are doing the moment we are doing it. We usually burn cds so the band can check the mix in their car or in a crappy "hifi" system we have in the kitchen to ok the mix. I have to say, that when we get a mix back up, spot on prefect recall, you start doing the changes and, almost always, ends up being different enough that we could have started from a "ball park" mix, not necessarily a 100%-spot on-recall. We take pictures and have recall sheets for everything. Taking the pictures is considerably faster for taking the recall. Sheets are a little faster for putting it back up. You need some experience taking the photos for the photos to work. This system looks interesting. Not sure if I could set it up for the console... And most of my rack gear is in a "custom" made rack with a non standard size. And, I bet it's not cheap.

Im also thinking that this system would not work with several pieces: 165A, LA22, 511. You can't get photo a recall of these with just one "frontal" picture. I'm sure there are a bunch more. If you just take zenithal pictures of our console, you won't know if the eq is engaged or not, for example.

There was this guy that made images of the front panel of the gear you needed in vst format. For example he made an image of my eq2nv and every time I need to store a setting, I just adjust the knobs on my virtual eq to match and store it in a plug in slot on the channel. Unfortunately he no longer makes them. Great idea though.

When I had my summing mixer and buscomp the knobs never moved. I just pushed the mix into the outboard until I heard it and saw the right amount of GR on the meter.
Kind of troublesome for me not to be able to bring the mix back 100%

Poor Matt being wrong and all. Ah, this is fun! I won't hijack the thread any worse than it has been, but I can't wait for the season to start.

Sorry for topic sliding. Is there a spot for notes in a pro tools session? Apart from track comments.
