"Sleeping your way to the top" I wondered how she has gotten as far as she has with no talent.

I have to say...I've never gotten the whole Lana Del Ray thing...but don't people freaking love her?
Anyway - that Kesha and Dr. Luke thing is scary. Either way. If he's that much of a psycho - that's scary. If she's that much of a psycho to accuse him of those things out of nowhere, that's scary too.

It is interesting that it takes personal lawsuits to get this sad story traction, when as big a story-their part in dumbing down the culture- got celebrated not condemned.
You know "Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack..."
Yeah, that's the ticket for music success in our culture: Embody the persona of a dunken floozy who thinks she's the queen of the dance floor.
Gottwald is only part of the problem in the part of the industry that has no soul.

I would say this...but I will just sound old...
Oh, screw it...It shocks me how - in our culture - idiocy and mediocrity is more celebrated than true talent...Why is that?

I must be so out of touch. I have no idea of any of these people you guys are talking about. That chick in that video sounds like ass but she sure is pretty. That's all that matters these days isn't it?

I would say this...but I will just sound old... Oh, screw it...It shocks me how - in our culture - idiocy and mediocrity is more celebrated than true talent...Why is that? Because radio is a facet of "pop culture" and is different from art and actual culture. It is a product sold and monopolized by the large media companies. They own radio. It has to appeal to people living in trailers and big houses alike. It is simple and vapid and like a TV show it is designed to be "accessible" by persons of any intellect or level of learning. It requires no frame of reference and you can tune in at any point in time and get the plot or message, or hook. It was the same way in the 1920s. Every person can find it in their failed nature to enjoy making fun of the school slut, or idolizing the jock. Popular radio like a lot of television plays to those archetypes. It's dumbed down and simple because slogans sell not complex concepts. There is plenty of complex and compelling music being made, but you can't go looking for it on radio anymore than you can go looking for a nice girl in a bar. I saw Esperanza Spalding recently. Oh my, what a gorgeous, cool, talented young woman.

Pop culture IS still culture, people are simply devolving in some very serious and scary ways, it's happening right before your lying eyes, see this and tell me i'm wrong??? It's almost right out of the movie idiocracy, except not a movie, and not funny, and totally alarmingly stupid....
