....is being able to focus on the music. Consider this my gratefulness thread. I was working on a track tonight...I drop the sm7 on the bass amp, DI into EQ--to two tracks....Royer on the guitar amp....(5min set up to get the levels set and EQ on the bass DI) going back and forth between the two instruments. Here's the thing...man, it sounded good. No reason to dick with anything. Already had a Rhodes track panned hard one way--pan the Egtr hard the other....bass up the middle....I was longing for needing to do something--because I couldn't get the groove in the pocket! Ha. Check...nope--still sounds perfect....fuck me--you mean I have to focus on getting the MUSIC right? Gift or curse. Depending on what's fun for you to focus on. Tonight, I choose to think of it as a gift. Tomorrow, I wake up and listen to the new Jackson Browne at 24/192....despite HDTracks pulling it down today. Pono exclusive? Not for ME....ha. Just continuing the gratefulness thread.

That's exactly why i think one should invest in good gear first rather than upgrade over time. So many times I wish I had just saved my cash a little longer rather than having too much GAS and focused more on the music.
Oh well, live and learn. It's just hard telling the next generation this stuff because they don't want to listen, just like I didn't want to listen!

Was it Bob O that said "recording should be a joy" ? maybe take a day off and go do something completely different...... recharge a bit.

I generally try to get 2-3 days between sessions if i have a lot of work. Anything closer together just burns me out. It would probably be different if i didn't have a day job though. .

Jackson should be hiring me to mix. Just sayin'....nice record, but I might have to do a little "mastering" to rid it of the low end mud.
If anyone is going to listen--my opinion is start in the middle. The last handful 4-5 tunes are the best ones on the record. I want to loop the duo in a row there of "Walls and Doors" and "What Side"....the first half, my mind was wandering...and thinking "oh well..." --and then came "sideB".
