Well my Akg 414 EB P48 (Nylon) capsule died and I need to replace it. With a 3-4 week wait on Akg parts I guess I have the options of putting a non genuine C12 capsule in there. Is there any personal recommendations that people could make that would be a better option for me but not breaking the bank for a $600 mic? One option I thought of was Tim's capsule. I think I would really like a CT12 capsule from Tim but I have not heard back from him yet about availability of one. Does anyone else stock his capsule? What else have people used and liked or not liked in there 414

I don't have a 414, but I have a few TC C12's, Tim is sometimes difficult to get a hold of, Shann, MicRehab is an excellent route, and so is Eric H, u can get his C12 at studio939 I believe? hope this helps.

Let me ask you this.. how do you know the capsule is dead? Flaking gold? Wrinkled diaphragm?
It still might be worth getting a real replacement, at least for resale value. While Tony suggests great sources for capsules, if you decide to sell the mic with a lesser known capsule , it'll be worth less.

Shannon has my 414's now. He is going to build new capsules and match them up.

The Market has pretty much excepted Tim's Capsule as a AKG replacement / upgrade, I'm sure Shannon's will soon be in the same class.

I've also tried numerous times to get in touch with Tim about a capsule or two, via email a few times and even this site. I never heard back . I have a pair of custom C12's made by Beesneez with their own CK12 capsule and have compared it to my C414BULS. There is a family resemblance, but the BN mic has a much more musical bottom end and very smooth mids and highs. Less "scooped" than the 414 can be. From what I understand Tim and Ben are friends, so I'm sure some friendly capsule-making advice has been shared between them. The two capsules certainly look a lot a like. While I'm anxious to make a direct comparison of the two, I can say with confidence, that you can't go wrong with the BN CK12 as a replacement for your 414 nylon cap. I believe the cost is around $450.

I've got 3 Tim Campbell capsules, with 2- 414EB mounts, in the mail right now. With 2 of them, I'm going to replace the orginal nylon ring capsules in my 414EBs. I was going to list the orginal capsules, they are in great shape, on E-bay. If you're interested, P.M. me.

Well I got my Reply from Tim today: "Thanks for your interest in my capsule. My current lead time is 8-12 weeks. The current cost of my capsule is 2250 danish kroner. A mount costs 200 danish kroner and shipping costs 100 danish kroner.
My capsule is a direct replacement
Kind regards, Tim"
