I can't say I'm worried but I'm worried it can get out of hand faster than the CDC admits.

There are a few facts that concern me.
1. This is a brand new strain. Never seen before, much more virulent. Just look at the infection rates and the number of dead. Enough said.
2. Learned people tend to cling to their mindsets like dogma. It's obvious that it's much worse than before, yet all we see are the same rhetorical talking points everywhere. After working in the engineering/science world for so long, I've learned one thing.. People stick with what they know because it's comfortable. Try to teach them something new and they'll recoil and tell you that you are wrong. Same thing here, it's obvious it's worse yet the scientific community seems to be acting like it's business as usual.
3. This new strain is infecting healthcare workers in Africa in much higher numbers than previous strains even though the same precautions are being taken.
4. The US gov spent millions to go fetch 2 people from Africa under humanitarian reasons.. Since when has the government cared about anyone like that? I think it was so this new strain could be studied in vivo in these two people.
5. The US government has multiple patents on genetically modified ebola strains.. Obviously they are either studying bioweapons or they are working on cures. If they are working on cures, it's damn scary that they think it's a big enough problem to work on..
6. CDC/hospitals.. All they talk about is how prepared they are. First actual case of an Ebola patient and they royally fuck it up.. I have ZERO confidence our system is prepared.
7. The nurse.. So now a nurse has contracted Ebola from the man who died from it. The CDC continues following it's dogmatic talking points, but the evidence still points to this being much more infectious than they let on, presumably to keep people from rioting and looting.
8. The government.. You can bet your bottom dollar that the government will keep everything hush-hush until it's practically overtaking the president himself.
9. Canadian scientists have proven at least one strain could be transmitted in aerosol form, just like the flu/cold viruses. Just wait until this strain or another future strain have mutated enough to do so.

These points here are the most worrisome to me. Yeah they are. The problem is that the gov acts as if it sees itself as an entity upon itself rather than a service for the people. In that regard they makes choices based on the lowest common denominator, those who will take a public health emergency as cause to go out and loot and murder and all that. In the government's eyes, in order to keep this from happening, they must withhold the truth until as late as possible. Unfortunately that also keeps the well meaning people from getting the facts they need to prepare themselves beforehand.

I'm in Houston and we have a sports rivalry. I posted on FB some advice for those worried that live in Dallas. If they are worried they will catch the disease to go to Cowboy stadium as no one ever catches anything there.
On a serious note, I am ticked that guy got $500K in healthcare while our veterans die daily due to a lack of care. This guy lied to get here and brought the disease and now may kill an american. We need to focus on countrymen first, especially those who laid their lives on the line.
Also, I heard the nurse broke protocol and that this is how she caught it. She neglected some PPE of some kind.

we could use a good thinning of the heard 8) I kidd, i don't think it's going to be a problem here, i'd be more worried about a H5N1 mutation, history says we are actually very overdue for a pandemic. I wouldn't worry about this too much right now, it'll take a lot more than 1 (preventable)death before i'll buy into any conspiracy theories, this nurse will NOT die, id take bets on it.

Lmao! It's a certainty to be the opposite, It's Faux News, pedaling fear since 1996 and guaranteed to be 100% full of shit, 38% of the time, they are too stupid to be embarrassed by their stupidity. I didn't even look at the clip, but i'm sure ebola is the Nazi Kenyans fault lol to be clear, the other "news" corps are also fos, but Faux brings it to a totally new level, and most importantly, they have a track record of being exactly wrong about real issues, you know "the iraq war will be easy", "Romney will win the election", and the list goes on and on... don't believe your lying eyes www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/worst-fox-news-moments-of-2013#5187mf

I hear ya, but Fox is truly the only one that has anything different to say. I may not follow everything they say, but I can respect not toeing the party line of the liberal media.

I'm surprised they didn't plant some in Ferguson. The last guilt trip the mainstream media imposed on us wasn't successful.

The problem with us Humans is we only learn from our mistakes, Let me tell you a true story a Major hospitals specialized ICu had a sudden outbreak of MERSA , One of top infectus deises guys couldn't figure it out until one day he saw the cleaning guy was using the same mop in each room!
Worry more about everybody with the flue thinking its something else clogging the ERs, right now only the CDC can do the tests and they get overloaded. MERSA, Madcow worry me more.
Look as the son of a former Lab Manager, husband of a lab manager, professional patient who is imuno- compromised there are thing I am much more scared of! (Also as a contract employee of a bunch of major medical centers I have lots of stories I can't share) but honestly Ebola its self isn't my worry . The problem here is we need to be vigilant not panicky and if we could isolate the possible patients before they hop on a plane we could limit this thing!

The truth doesn't have a liberal or conservative bias, and when a "news" organization is proven to be liars, they deserve zero respect, and should be legally stripped of the right to employ the word "news" in their name, "faux info entertainment" would work. And let's not make false equivalencies here, as bad as msnbc is, Fox is by far thee worst offender in the main stream, the FACTS bear that out. Under the banner of "news", spin is one thing, fabrication and political action is a scourge. Most of their rhetoric is tribalistic Xenophobic hate mongering designed to separate gullible's from their $, and it works, Glenn beck and Sarah Palin got rich from it(how's ur gold investment doing smh). To be clear, not just fox, Fuck them all! I don't like being lied to and played for stupid.

I don't think Fox is any worse than the others, so I disagree on that part, However, I'll agree that they are all twisting things in order to make money off of us and the media in general is the enemy of the common man.

CNN and MSNBC were both reporting biased stories long before Fox even existed. That's coming from people that worked there. The three major Networks were always crooked as well. And that comes from long time journalists like Goldberg and Atkinson. Fox twists stuff and they lean right, but why not?? Look at who the competition is. I'm a Constitutionalist/Libertarian so I really don't get involved in right/left bickering. Just leave my god damn guns alone!

we don't seem far off from one another on this, but the big diff to me is that cnn/msnbc spin and offer disturbingly little in regard to quality information, fox lies and they are political operatives, that is hideous, and there is a difference in my book(there are media watchdog services that back this up with facts). But like svart said, they are all lame, and have less than righteous motivations, fuckem all.

If you remember during the last election most of the mainstream media wasn't reporting certain things about the current C in C. They didn't want to hurt his campaign.

exactly right mobeach. Additionally, how about the completely false stories by network news about GWB where america's anchor lost his job because of it. That is just the tip of the iceberg and tonycamphd, the link you provided had a couple of substantive issues but most of it was touchy feely - no real teeth there either. You just hate fox news and that's cool. Why can't you leave it at that?
