m.nashvillescene.com/nashvillecream/archives/2014/10/03/mystery-buyer-saves-studio-a“It’s a matter of prayer and faith. And it’s also a matter of getting the community organized.” country singer Jamey Johnson told the Scene last week, talking about the uphill plight to save 30 Music Square West. That's the building housing legendary RCA Studio A, where Johnson and rocker Ben Folds are longtime tenants. Whether by faith, community organization or both, it looks like Studio A — which current owner Tim Reynolds planned to raze if a buyer wasn’t locked down by Tuesday evening, has received an 11th hour stay of execution. This afternoon, Reynolds’ Bravo Development announced that it has “finalized a contract for the sale of 30 Music Square West.” At press time, the buyer is mysteriously cloaked under the moniker AMT Trust LLC, and the sale price was $5.6 million. “From the beginning I invited offers from those who have alternate plans for the building,” Reynolds said in a press release to local media. “We have worked diligently to find an appropriate buyer, and received multiple offers in the final hours before the deadline including some from developers who did not intend to save the building. In light of public concern, we ultimately decided to select the buyer that plans to preserve the building, and hopefully open it to the public.” And so, more than a million dollars richer, Bravo and Reynolds — who purchased the building for $4.1 million in July — find a way out of the controversial shit pile they stepped into when buying one of Music Row’s most historic buildings with plans to put up a milquetoast high-end condo complex. The Bradley and Atkins estates that sold the building made their money. And if this new owner allows Johnson, Studio A renter Ben Folds and the 30 Music Square West's other tenants to stay in the building, it looks like everybody might just win here. Go team!

Condos suck. Too many great places are destroyed because of condos.

That's great. I'm glad that was saved.
I can see the suburbs of Nashville though about to go on a massive boom. Anyone that's bought anything up there in the last 5 years is about to see their home and land value go up quite a bit. I'm kicking myself for not buying up there back then, I came close but didn't make the move. Nashville is becoming the cool place to be for sure. There's so much opportunity in music and outside of music there. I love seeing the city on the up and up.

No, Jerome...Oxford, MS is! Bama is gonna destroy us Lol…. no, I don't think so man… I think Ole Miss has their number dude. Remember what they did to UF back in the Tebow days, Ole Miss has a ball team this year and there's gonna be some rowdy fans in that stadium. Plus, I'm not buying the Blake Sims stock, sorry but I don't see that dude being clutch. Jacob Coker was behind Jameis and Jimbo tried to make everyone believe that there was an actual battle going on for the starting spot, but I know two of the assistants and it wasn't even close. The fact Bama had a tough time figuring out who would be their starter is significant, because Coker is just not a good decision maker. Also, I think Wallace can exploit Bama's really young secondary. If he plays a smart and cool game, and doesn't give it to Bama Ole miss will win that game.

I'm surprised Nashville isn't ruined already. It seemed like every struggling musician I met when I lived in LA ten years ago was moving to Nashville and for the last 5 or 6 years in New York there has been a mass migration to Nashville like spring breakers to Daytona Beach. I've got to imagine that Nashville is becoming commoditized and condo-ized. It seems like people who haven't been able to catch a break in the music business think they will find one by moving there.

I hear Austin is the place to go, at least you're not playing for tips every night. I know a female musician that moved from L.A. to Austin, she's never looked back.

By the time anywhere gets known as "the place to go," it isn't any more! In the '80s a lot of people from the SF Bay area migrated to Seattle and I knew people who were actually earning a living writing and playing original music for around a decade before Nirvana hit. After that the flood of Nirvana wanna-bees showed up and it all turned into pay to play. My mastering clients in Austin tell me the same thing happened there around ten years ago.
Nashville still has a few things going for it:
1. It is the music publishing capitol of the world with professional songwriters, studio musicians and studios for making demos.
2. It is the touring musician capitol of the United States. A musician can take a call in the morning and be on any stage in the country that night.
3. Enough string sessions that it's a very desirable place for really good players to live.
It used to also have Opryland which employed lots of young singers and musicians. The very best were harvested by the majors and recorded locally.

Aubrey Preston bought it. He already owns most of Leipers Fork, so, I guess it will be Pucket's studio now...
