I thought this was interesting, that Lenny Kravitz was generating some revenue by selling meet&greet access at each concert stop, along with some of his clothing line merch. www.lennykravitz.com/tour/

Not surprised, the Labels are dead, radio no longer matters, Let the artist cash in. The only thing is the Artist better realize they have to be "on " for these paing customers, for every good meet and great there has been one where the artist acted like it was a hardship to be there.

This sort of thing is pretty common these days. Just about every touring artist I look up to see about tickets has a VIP package available. I would guess that some are better than others, mostly depending on the attitude of the artist or whether they are hung-over/jonesing (or not).

BOC does meet-and-greets about 25% of the time, usually the promoter wants it, the folks are usually contest winners or VIPs, we don't charge for it and the only meet is a handshake and a photo op. I see artists charging a hefty premium for meet and greets, I'd expect a little more face time with the artist for the price, I wonder if anyone has had experience with a paid VIP mingle with an artist, how was it?

I guy I know got me into a Tool meet and greet a few years ago. I wasn't overly excited to meet the band or anything, but figured what the hell, free opportunity and I can avoid some traffic after the show. Waited an hour and 15 after the show for them to come out. Danny Carey was the only one that came out, signed a few autographs and was gone in 15 minutes. Maynard quickly walked in one door of the room and out the other, didn't stop or acknowledge anyone. Everyone thought he was passing through to grab a drink or something and coming back or whatever, never came back.

Yeah, some stories about those types of "meet n' greets" where nobody shows, or only comes in for a second makes me wonder if they band even knows it's a "meet n' greet" at all. Usually they have handlers and managers and promoters doing most of the work around them, so I wouldn't be surprised if the band was just told to "enter the room and wave", not even knowing what it's about.
Then again, I've read/heard that Maynard is just a tool.(pun intended)
