I followed a link about a particular item over to Gearslutz - and I got a "Server is too busy message." Didn't think much of it...Tried another one a couple of days later. Same thing. I started wondering if something was going on. Happens every time now. I can get on fine with a different IP. Apparently, they blocked my ip address. Honestly, I could give TWO SHITS....but it's just so fucking ridiculous. I have never blocked any of them from coming here, btw.

And if you think it's because RGO is competition...they have 200,000 members (unless those numbers are inflated to charge more to advertisers). We have...well, a tad bit less  |

Yesterday I tried to look at a thread in the new products and kept getting server is busy no problem today.
John they probably count you at least. 3 times in that 200k, even if you are banned.

Well, good to know...Since I changed the ip, I had no problems. Just assumed it was just me...I take back all the rude things I said...

I remember seeing this message often in the past.
Even I do not see a logical reason why they should block people coming from here.
If they do it you change the IP and bang you are in again.
It makes no sense at all and if they do it - good for you.
Soon you will have more people here because most people hate Nazis.

It's them....I went there recently looking for info on the SPL Crimson. Reminded me of how flawed the BBS idea is as a source of new product info.
You could literally search and replace "spl crimson" with....whatever-- "apogee quartet" and have the same thread:
--handful of people saying how great the preamps are next to their $200 entry level thing they had before
--handful having driver problems on Windows....and more saying they're not.
--some people comparing SNR specs and other utterly meaningless numbers--none of them ever touched the unit
--lots of people saying "man that looks cool"
--some people saying they figure it's "ok for the money but not equal to insert their gear"-again, having never touched it
--one or two people with allegedly defective units bitching about customer service (and customer service reps saying they can't find anywhere that they've even contacted them)
So, after hours of digging through the threads, the amount of info I had that I didn't have before? Next to none.

Next to none. The problem is people most often forget to say what reference they have in mind. If you never heard a great preamp you go wow about what you get out of a cheap preamp. It came very late to my mind that you can discuss for hours and two people reference completely different things. Therefore I always try to talk about what I reference my opinion too. And if I never used a specific gear I completely shut up. Should be a rule on message bords…. |

The biggest problem with GC and something to keep in mind here is that the newer mods have this " I'm right your wrong " addittude.
I pretty much gave up, when on a thread about doing video with a DSLR and audio sync I suggested The old practice of a cheap Timecode generator,I was told I was out of touch and manual syncing in post was so easy!
Here's the thing I own a TC gen /sync box , I never get to use it because one of my 4-5 neighbors who do video is always renting it ! In fact a bunch of the local editors love the ease of TC so much, they keep sending me rental referrals that I'm buying at least one more and a better sync box ! But what do I know about video, I mean I would have a Regional Emmy but you can't be the subject and be listed on the submission !

Yes last, lets say still tolerant psychos!! I am just happy to not read " WHAT SHOULD I BUY NEXT". That made me thinking what is it about making "art" in engineering or a buying competition? I was completely missing the debate about the way someone reaches a the goal, a nice sounding record. I am very happy to be hear as an hobbyist. I get answers by more experienced peoples, some professionals. It makes sense to me, and I hope to those who are willed to get information away for free makes it sense too. A message board should be WIN WIN to all users. |
