I won't be in town Sept. 27th for the Vintage King Gear Expo, but I've read that Chandler will release a new product. Any guesses?

Who knows, but Wade has been on a guitar pedal and amp binge! The Guys at the local MI shop have known Wade since they were kids.

Something that's undoubtedly cool but expensive as hell.

Something that's undoubtedly cool but expensive as hell. Announcement says it's in the EMI/Abbey Road line. There's already pre's, curve bender eq and two comps in that line, so what's left.. a channel strip? Or could it be that TG mixing console that Wade posted about a few years ago. That would be the coolest release of the century and yes, expensive as hell .

I bet it is Redd 47 and RS124 stuff. They recently re trade marked the names and told the DIY market to go suck it. Awesome how the DIY market makes/recreates a market for these guys to come swoop in and make a not as good version for a lot more cost usually.

My first thought was 500-series brilliance pack modules.

Wait a minute here, Wade has pretty much bet his company on the time and investment to secure the rights to do the EMI stuff. We are talking EMI a company that exists on its intelligent property! We the audio / music community must respect the rights of others if we wish to have others respect our revenue stream our intellectual property! We can't play it when it meets our needs we either respect it or we don't ! I have been told by mutual friends how long Wade has been working on the Abby Road stuff, this goes way back, to before Chandler! Wade understood the Gigantic Legal hurdles he would have to jump through. EMI unlike API, Neve, Pulse ect has always Kept its Trademarks, Patens and such current, heck it's what they do! They renew their rights! I have been told part of the deal is Chandler has to police those rights, and if they want to renew those lic. they have to keep EMI happy! For the DIY community this presents a very interesting situation, unlike any other. You don't have to like it but what's the sufferance from a bunch of kids sharing files and a bunch of us sharing a design we don't have the rights to, that somebody has the rights to?

These trademarks had just been filed a few months ago. Long (many years) after Drip had already resurrected the RS124 and REDD 47 from extinction. Who knows how many RS124 where ever made by EMI, was it ever a real product or just a mod? I know they are modified Altec compressors which had nothing to do with EMI. I think Drip has done more for the historical value of these pieces of gear then whoever buys the name years later and says it was there idea.
Either way I think all the rage over this old EMI gear is over rated. Specially if it comes out in a plugin.

Dan wording here is important they filed for a renewal, they could do that because they held the rights. Of Course they would renew them, that's what makes the lic agreement valuable . I have been over this with a world class Lawyer who for years speciality was patents and intellectual property who now only handles appeals .

Funny..I believe this unit has been shown for some time on a pic of Wade and Mirek STiles (Abbey Road) on the front page of Chandler's site. chandlerlimited.com/news/chandler-limited-and-abbey-road-studios-announce-long-term-agreement/Attachments:

FWIW, I just did a search on the US PTO site and the only record with "REDD" and "47" was a dead TM that expired in 2005. That was registered to John Hinson and was specifically "REDD.47".

Yep, it was the Redd 47 mic pre. It has some standard modern day options that we need as current engineers, but it looks to be the old school build and will be a huge hit.

To be clear... The dead TM from 2005 was from when Hinson tried to register it out from under EMI. EMI was notified, and as a result Hinson's business was shut down.

Apparently street price for the Redd 47 will be around $2200...
