BTW with the years I think those kind of AB tests - HW and SW - are pretty useless. Working with the tools can bring up big differences!! Do not forget to mention that using a mouse arrow is pretty boring...

I personally much prefer using real knobs to a mouse which is why I own the hardware, but if the software can get me there, I could sell the hardware for a piece that's not available as software.

I understand your aim. Use both tools in mixing and you will see if you can save money. Do not let the wish be your guide. Just for example my G-SSL Gyraf clone shows its potential when the arrangement of the music is dense and full. The Waves G SSL software is not bad, but finds just little response. Too many plug in companies try to fool us with nice pictures, and a logo of the original brand on top. On GS I showed a few measurements of this great fool game. Not to forget to mention the Nebula stuff. That is very impressive to my ears; but not that comfortable in use as a Waves plug in.
