Get a load of this shit. So - the C5 is a really decent mic to begin with, but too much top, but usable and a good buy. But take a listen to this...Shannon put in another capsule and it's a different monkey altogether. Sounds nothing like the original. (I'll try and get a stock comparison up too when I have time)
This is pure muscle. Punchy (I'm sure the Heider doesn't hurt), but the top end sounds natural to me - if not rolled off a bit. But when's the last time a pencil punched you in the nuts? To me, this is natural on top, NOT squelchy in the midrange and big balls on the bottom. You be the judge. This is just me doodling around in my home studio. The first one is just the mic into a Heider and the second has a tiny bit of EQ and room verb. Found my new acoustic mic.

Johnkenn ? also, where'd you place the mic? i'm guessing toward the sound hole and pretty close? if not, damn balls is right lol, the top is quite buttery, something about the sound on whole is sinister, i like sinister 8)

I'm 99% sure this is a different guitar. I remember hearing this posting on the other site and digging it, so I just went looking for it. Huge differences between the sounds, but both are good. The modded version seems like it would sit nicely in a singer/songwriter open mix and the old version sounds like it would fit nicely in a dense pop track. Hey Shannon, how much does some mod like this run? Any more details? What's actually being done? You say this can be done to any pencil? If I grab a $30 MXL, you could make it sound this good?

Shannon^^^^^ I'm pretty positive it was a different guitar. No telling which guitar that was. Anyway. I've got the unmodded cap too, so I'll get a quick file of that up too. tonycamphd, that was about 7-10 inches away from the 12th fret...angled just a bit towards the soundhole.

I was listening on the laptop but I heard something. Maybe back that baby up again or turn the Heider down a little and see what it sounds like.
Also, I love Heiders in acoustic. Try the hi z!
