I don't know a lot of specifics on famous drum rooms, hopefully you fella's will? but I thought a thread on the worlds greatest drum rooms, associated tracks, and gear used on those tracks, would be cool. Here's my first contribution... Headley Grange, stairwell, led zep 4, drums on when the levee breaks. equipment- Stereo pair beyerdynamic M160 ribbon mics hung from second floor, rolling stones mobile rig, helio's pre's, f760 compressors. Edit; svart= correct, i forgot the binson echorech, it's a huge part of that sound.

Hank's old studio A @ O'Henry's. With the west coast's largest API and a huge compliment of C12's, 47's, 67's, 49's, 84's and 87's. What else do you need? Sad day when it was bought out by a rich investor who barely uses it....

Yes, the original studio. First time I brought up an overhead I just about keeled over. I'm not sure they even know what they've got because most people don't work old school.

It's not particularly high. I've never found much correlation with ceiling height. Frankly I'm fine recording drums at home but I think a studio makes a big improvement for vocals because the mike doesn't need to be so close.

I always liked "Can't Get Enough" by Bad Company. Also recorded at Headley Grange, East Hampshire, England in November 1973. Sounds like a real kit in a room. Great balance with the mix. "We were bursting at the seams to get into the recording studio," says Rodgers. "Led Zeppelin had a mobile studio together at Headley Grange all ready to go, but they were delayed for two weeks. Peter told us that if we were quick, we could probably use the studio to lay a couple of tracks down. We steamed in and put the entire album down. Headley Grange was very atmospheric. We had the drums set up in the hallway and the guitars in the living room. We did interesting experiments like placing the vocal microphone way out in the fields for the song 'Bad Company.' We recorded that track late at night underneath a fall moon." We tend to think of studios, but these big mansions had great natural ambiance and good engineers made good use of them.
