We use it for voice over records quite a bit. It all depends on the worst internet connection in the chain on if the audio is usable or not. Yesterday, about every other take was unusable.

Source Connect. Works great. Used in Hollyweird for E. Euro orchestra sessions for years. Reliable, workable. Really at this point, the only solution that's universally workable.
Of course, if you have a crappy internet connection, all bets are off. People using it on the record end (E. EURO studios) generally have good connections - their bread and butter depends on it. On the user "listener" end, it's up in the air, but most US cities have very high speed broadband at this point in time.

I guess it's not that big of a deal to have little glitches in the stream if you're just using source connect for monitoring like the setup you described drbill. I'm still a fan of the APT codec over zephyr and source connect, although it's a bit more cost prohibitive.
