Is anyone using the SPL Madison converter? How does it compare to the other usual suspects (Apollo 16, Orion32, Symphony I/O, Avid HD I/O, etc.) in terms of sound quality? I've been considering the Symphony 16x16 + ThunderBridge, but it looks like I can get a Madison + RME MADI card + OWC Helios 2 chassis for @ $500 less.

I do not know the converters by SPL but if you want conversion from Germany I would rather look into RME because they have much more experience in developing great converters. RME is used in tracking for Orchestra in Germany…. www.rme-audio.de/products_adi_8_qs.php

SPL's analog routers are used by most of the world's top mastering facilities. I would be very surprised if it wasn't absolutely first class.

Reviving this old thread. I'm hunting around for 16 to 32 channels of conversion, and curious about the SPL Madison. What do people think of these in 2024? The higher voltage rails on the Madison have me a little curious.

Reviving this old thread. I'm hunting around for 16 to 32 channels of conversion, and curious about the SPL Madison. What do people think of these in 2024? The higher voltage rails on the Madison have me a little curious. No stone unturned, eh? Ha! Nope. I'm looking at ALL options under all stones. But I have settled on the RME HDSPe MADI FX card as my interface. So the list of my converter options is narrowing quickly. It's down to converters that have a MADI connection, and there aren't as many out there as I might have initially thought there would be. There are a few other MADI converters that I'm not looking at, mostly because of their high price, as much as anything. But, in addition to the Burls (which I think I'm going to get), I'm also looking at Orion 32, Ferrofish Pulse 16 MX or A32 Pro, SPL Madison, Metric Halo Lio (with MADI Edge card), and that's maybe about it, at this point. The RME card looks like it's going to be able to get me the sort of low latency I want (<1.5 ms RTL), and do it in an as stable as possible fashion. So I'm excited for that. Throw in the dual buffer DAW thing, and this will work pretty well, I think. I really wanted the MHLink thing to work out, so that I could use a Lio as my interface, and bring in MADI that way, via an Edge card, but I was just worried about latency, and also the ability to maintain that latency in a late stage overdub type of scenario. Oh well, maybe they'll eventually improve MHLink enough one day for that to work. I still might buy a Lio to use for hardware inserts though, and use it as a converter instead of an interface. The MADI Edge card would work for that too, because the MH stuff is so damn flexible. I'll probably be putting my pair of Apollo x16 up for sale soon. Hell, UA just released an update for Luna. So now, with the new update, even Luna has dual buffers. The writing is on the wall, and UA seems to be headed for an all native future. I'm glad I'm getting off the Apollo train.
