I recently listened to tracks I'd uploaded on my website a long time ago, and they sounded like they were under water. I just listened to a WAV file I posted on Soundcloud only a few days ago, and the sound is changing to something that sounds like wow and flutter. What's going on? Can I prevent it from happening?

well, start with, soundcloud is 128kbps mp3. Doesn't matter what you upload....except that if you don't give them a WAV or EXACTLY what they want, they're transcoding. Bad.
Are you saying you've downloaded your own website files and the files are corrupt? If not--I'd assume the host has implemented some sort of streaming "optimization" on the back end--it see a 16/44 WAV and immediately, in real time makes it a mp3 of whatever bitrate there is bandwidth available. If the files themselves have changed. Resore them from a back up and set yourself a reminder to check them. See if the provider keeps corrupting them...or if it's a fluke.

Thanks popmann, I think my website host has messed with it. I'll contact them, ask for info, and upload all my album tracks again, ugh.. isn't that fun. Man, I thought Soundcloud left files alone. Why bother loading a WAV file if they're going to dumb it down.

Why bother loading a WAV file if they're going to dumb it down. Well, actually, that's better than uploading a 256mp3 and having them transcode it down to 128. One of the things I found interesting about this talk was all the talk of transcoding...and how Amazon does things like LPF 15khz on the way into their encoder...which might explain why I think Apple's AACs sound exponentially better than Amazon mp3--and yet my OWN mp3s AAC is just "a little better"....if they're going from 24/88 directly to AAC and Amazon is ripping the redbook CD and THEN lopping off everything north of 15khz on the way in...wow...no wonder every time I get Amazon mp3s (via Autorip) I think "why do people PAY for this crap?".... Bandcamp, I thought did a nice job. I uploaded only the 24/88 of the new stuff....they did all the conversion down--and I think the stream sounds "fine"...it's obviously an mp3, and not a high bit rate one....but, I don't feel like there's any swishing or weird artifacts....then again-I don't spend much time listening to my 128 stream.
