I'm using AOM Limiter and pulling down to .30 and suppress. I'm not hitting red in PT's on the Apollo meter...but I just noticed after I converted it, it's hitting red pretty often on the mp3...what gives?

I used to always make sure I had peaks of no more than -1.0dB before converting to mp3 to avoid clips.
cheers

I use a windows system. So, I set up Remote Desktop on my laptap when I want to record vocals in a vocal booth and run the system from the laptop. That being said, I do a lot of vocal tracking in the control room. So, I put baffles around the computer to cut the noise and hit record. I track guitar and bass from the control room as well. So, I set up my REDDI and my amp head and my mic stand and everything is within sliding chair's distance. The more I do it, the more I realize I must have every line of the lyrics-especially the chorus- to my satisfaction beforehand. There's nothing worse than having to overdub a background vox chorus section again-with 4 passes three different times for each chorus- due to a changing lyric line.

I've found that the only mic I'll ever need is a CAD Equitek 400 with the dual overhead cams, turbo and supercharger from the early 1970s. That mic is BEAST man... I swear I can play twice as fast when doing sweep arpeggios when the turbo kicks in on the microphone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- on another note.... John, so are you bouncing down in the box? Making an ITB mix as an MP3 using the Pro Tools plug in too or just converting your stereo wav/aif file to MP3 after the fact? Have you decided to only use the encoding from a wav.aif after? Then are you encoding on a computer totally ITB or from an outaide deck, analog gear back into PT? As for peaks on mixes. 0.4 is pretty darned safe.

John, I notice that too on the Apollo twin meters, but it doesn't sound bad, so I ignore it. It happens in iTunes also, with commercial product sometimes.

Yeah - I'm not sure I'm doing anything out of the ordinary - -10 rms. Looks like it was happening on the wav too actually. Wonder if the Apollo is a little quick to the red?
